Hey Steelnut,

Could you do me a huge favor and post a couple of pics of your UG in hand for me? I just picked up the same one (with the longer thumb rest on the spine) from knife hunter and need a pic fix until it arrives!

THANKS MY FRIEND!!!

Yeah sorry...didn't mean right away...just when you get a chance. Great Pic on the Monkey!

There was one pic posted in hand, but it was just the front end of the blade showing a choked up hold (Not that I didn't appreciate that pic too!). I was curious how long the handle was in hand.

Any idea how many of the longer thumb models were made?

THANKS AGAIN!!!

Boy compared to the Monkey that Grudge looks like a heck of a defense knife!!!

I think the UG would serve well as a defensive knife or as a very nice task/chore/utility/hiking/trail, etc. type knife.

The UG has the "potential" to dethrone my customized dropped point RMD for a similar sized knife.

The handle shapes and size are very similar between the RMD and UG. The RMD has a slightly taller handle - which makes the RMD's handle feel a bit more hand filling. The UG has a thicker tang, but the overall width of the handle is about the same. So, with it's shorter handle height, the UG feels a bit slimmer over-all = a bit more manueverable in the hand and faster in the hand. Vs. the RMD feeling just beefier.

The RMD also has a ramp - whereas the UG does not.

If you have an RMD or HRLM, a comparison pick between the UG and RMD or HRLM handle would give a good comparison.

The RMD has a slight advantage towards batoning with it not having a swedge.

However, the swedge on the UG has its pros as well.... Life and knives.... Both full of compromises. :o No one knife does "everything".... keeps us buying more.

I have larger than average hands. I wear mostly XL gloves. Large gloves sometimes fit, but usually too tight or small. Mostly XL. I don't know how else to catorgorize hand size (????)

My hands are not super chunky or thick. But, mostly long and generally larger than most people's.

For me, the UG's handle size is about perfect for this knife's size.

THANKS DWRW!!!! That's Exactly what I was looking for!!!! My hands are XL-XXL too, so that helps alot!!! I have a few RMD's coming and this UG, so I can't compare until they get here!!! Life is good right now (my wallet might disagree)!!!

THANKS!!!

Stumper,

Well, if you have XXL hands, the UG might be a tad snug, but a good chance still fine.
The RMD is more likely to be to your liking for fit. BOTH are VERY nice knives though. The RMD has been one of my FAVORITES for a long time now. And now the UG is a little different design with some over-lap in function. It is a SERIOUS contender for MANY of my personal uses.

If I had to be "SUPER"-picky, I might taper the sides of the handle at the pommel (little finger) a tad to make narrower at my little finger - this would provide a little more room and a bit more little finger squeeze grip at the same time. But, for me, the "Length" of the grip area from the guard to pommel - where my four lower fingers grip - is VERY fine!

Even with my "generally" XL sized hands, I can spread my fingers a bit at an angle and still have sufficient handle room. If I squeeze my fingers in tighter, I have an extra 1/8"-1/4" of grip area or so.

If needed, the UG's handle at the pommel could probably be reshaped to allow for a bit more room if you decide it is a user for you. You might be able to squeek out an extra 1/8"-1/4" in handle grip area length if needed. And by tapering the sides at the pommel (if needed) some extra comfort might be gained for XXL hands - or various other sized hands (???).

This is not a HUGE handled knife by Busse standards. But, it is a svelte slender knife that is just large enough in the grip area for 95% of the hands out there (I would guess).
Then handle and grip area of the handle is very appropriate IMO for this knife design. But, people's hands and comfort preferences vary a lot and make it tough for knife makers. Still, I think the UG is a winner.

You will most likely like the RMD for sure. The RMD's handle design is more "adaptable" to a WIDE variety of hand sizes because of the way the belly of the handle flares more gradually. Whereas the the UG's handle gives just a little more snug secure fit/feel/grip which is more appropriate for this style knife - semi-fighter, semi-slender utility knife - IMO.

Hey steelnut (or anyone else who knows),

I have obviously figured out this is a "UG" knife on top in this pic, based on the discussion in this thread.
Questions:

-What does "UG" stand for?

-Which model Busse is the desert camo finished one underneath? I cannot tell for sure? Thanks.

UG = Urban Grudge
that knife on the bottom is a TMDSF = terror monkey desert storm fighter. i think i got it right.
