Ordered a Steelwill Modus in carbon fiber online. The knife had very loose detent and very early lockup. I sent the knife back to exchange for another of the same model and asked the next knife be looked at before hand. Customer service was awesome. They only had a few in stock and told me the best one they had had a strong detent and late lockup. I told them to send it to me because some of these descriptions are subjective and I wanted to see it in person and see if it was ok for my liking. It does have a strong detent, maybe too strong, and the lockup is late (70 to 80%).
I like the knife model in general, but at this point I've seen 2 knives with construction issues. I'm debating returning this second knife and asking if they have a model with the G10 scales with better construction.
Any advice? Should I service the knife first to see if some of these issues get batter afterwards? I suppose I could gently flatten the linerlock to "early-up" the lockup and file a small ramp to loosen the detent, but this shouldn't have to be done on a new knife.
Thanks!
