He has always said the AK Bowie was his favorite HI product. I got my first one today. I asked Yangdu if she had a wood handled one. She wasn't able to identify the length, width, wood or maker since she was in a rush to ship it. But OAL is almost 15", 1/2" thick at the spine. Made by Rajendra and I'm not sure of weight or what the wood is.

The point is very "pointy" and it feels great in the hand. I'd guestimate the weight around 28 ounces?

Now for the pictures.

They do have a great cleaver-like feel, combined with pointability.

And they loan themselves to great customization; seen many beauty jobs built out of them.

Mods to mine (Kumar, horn) include a bit of paracord- so I can tell it from all the other AK bowies :p and getting rid of the sheath snap.

Holy Cow! Well, I'm gonna copy, paste, and email this to my wife. Empirical evidence that I CAN be right from time to time:D

I love the AK bowie. I need to pick up another one down the road. My dad has mine, and I doubt he'll be giving it back;) I have lots of HI products that I love and use, but none of them have been able to take the coveted spot of "favorite" like the AK bowie has held for YEARS:D

That is one FANTASTIC lookin blade!

I absolutely love the AK Bowie. Mine has accompanied me on numerous excursions and has all the battered markings to prove it. The last time we went out i used it as an axe to cut down some dead trees for shelter, buck them up for firewood, and split them for kindling. Then I used it as a filet knife for the fish we caught, and overnight I used it to suspend a laundry bag by driving it into a tree. The knife is amazing and indestructible. I have finally managed to get two small knicks in the blade because I hit an old log that had a nail hidden inside it, but they are very small. I will definately get another one in the future, if only to have a shiny version :) And I love that wood handle!

I'd love to see one with a purpleheart handle like the "Ultimate Fighter" in the recent "Beauty and the Beast" DOTD. That would be nice.

Or if a blem popped up I'd throw some bocote on it.

I would say that is just some sisau for the handle; no deep veining like the bocote, walnut, or satisal, and not as red as bayar. So, it looks like you got some Himalayan Redwood on your hands. Now, that is an AK Bowie for me. Looks like I have an e-mail to send to Yangdu.
