I'm in the process of looking for a EDC fixed blade that I can trust in the field as well, and from what I've seen so far the Steep Country looks like a great blade for me, the only problem being the rubber handle that it comes with. So, I was wondering if anybody has tried to replace the handle yet? Or if there was anybody that was willing to offer their opinion on the possibility of such a modification.

Thanks in Advance,

I'm sure it's do-able.
You would need to cut the stock handle off.
You will more than likely have to "nest" the tang into the new slabs, since the tang is narrower than the factory handle.
You may also need to drill a couple of holes through the tang, if there are none present(for pins or screws).
You would also want to make the front end of the new handle very similar (size & shape wise) to the factory handles.
That way the knife will still fit in the kydex holster correctly.
After that, you can heat the kydex up with a hair dryer to make the final adjustments needed so that the knife will once again "click" in to the holster like it did when it was new.

Thanks for your input Keyman, there's nobody that I'd trust more in regards to scales, and as for the sheath, I'm not to worried, as if I go this route I'll get a custom for it anyway. And if I do go this route, might you be open to me contacting you about potentially hiring you for the job?

You are welcome KB3UBW and thank you for your kind words.
Feel free to contact me anytime.

Keyman, did you ever get the chance to make scales for the Steep Country? I might be interested if you did.
