I always love to look at all the pretty knives here, but I do not often post pictures of knives from my own collection.

So I thought I would try to contribute something and post a picture of a recent acquisition. Here ya go.

This knife features Doug Ponzio's Turkish Twist stainless Damascus, and is a lockback design.

The picture is nice, but I think it is hard to capture the reflective luminosity of the metal and pearl in this piece in any picture.

I wish the picture had a shot of the knife in the closed psotion, because IMO it really shines that way. Maybe I will get another picture taken in the closed position and update this thread then.

This knife is unusual for my collection, as I don't generally collect folders. I only have about a dozen folders. But I loved this knife the first time I saw it, and when the opportunity to acquire it presented itself, I went for it.

Anyway, I hope at least some of you enjoy seeing it.

Oh, and just to be clear . . . any and all opinions positive or negative are welcome by me. :)

Steigerwalt seems a little under the radar to me. He's definitely carving out his own territory.

Wow....just wow, Lorien.

I find this mind boggling, because Ken was making knives before I was collecting them, and was well known in a regional sense(the region being the Tri-State area of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut) back then. He was known in the '80's for affordable yet well-constructed back and mid-lock folders. He has only increased in price, market position, prestige and skill over the years, never gone down.

The best way to describe Ken is a more affordable and productive Wolfgang Loerchner. Ken has been highly influenced by Wolfe through the careful attention and patronage of Don Guild. Ken worked with and assisted Matt Lerch in kicking it up to a higher level.

Hopefully, this was instructive and helpful.

Ken, this is a great get, and thanks for posting it up. I have nothing negative to say about it, except I wish that I had the stones to pony up the very reasonable cash for a piece like this.

Early in my collecting I had a KS fixed blade that did not meet my needs and it was moved. However, while I have not acquired his new folders, one certainly must admire them and this one really looks nice.

I've always sorta wanted one of his in that shape. That is one of the nicest i've seen in terms of my taste. Great folder! Reasonable prices too.

I have always been a fan of Ken's folders. This one is really special, I feel. I can see why it would make a fixed blade man bend. Great acquisition! It has a lot going, all in such a good way.

Thanks for the comments.

In the realm where his knives present themselves, they offer a lot of value IMO. This was really evidenced at the Boston Art Knife Classic back in April where his knives, influenced by Bauhaus and Art Deco design, were pretty clearly the hit of the show for the comparative value they offered. Not that there weren't many other really fantastic pieces there - there definitely were. But his prices were just comparatively so attractive - IMO and apparently the opinions of many others. His table was the most crowded, his boxes were the most filled . . . and I got completely shut out. So this is a very nice "consolation prize" - LOL!

At this end of the world, Kenny is a familiar face and a regular to my table. He is one of THE most likable guys you can meet. He's also a school teacher?

Do the search on my site. You will be bowled over. You can see the progression through the years, especially in the last four.

Congrats, Ken! That's a great piece, as they all are.

Props to STeven - right on.

The thing that makes this knife so special is the subtleties....from a distance, the pearl and turkish twist are like POW, but when you get up on it, the inlays, carving, and gold pin work just make it entice and engage.

Ken also makes a fine action, the lock engagement is very sturdy and has excellent harmonics.

I will concur with all the others - this one is fantastic, and Ken just keeps getting better

I too dropped on a number of his knives at Boston....and was the "first alternate" on 2......but of course, those were instantly snapped up by the winners, so I was out of luck :D

Didn't Ken win the best of show in Chicago several years back?
