This ought to make you Loveless purists (Garrson/Viriginian/Sharp) quiver like a dog passing razor blades......a bowie with a Loveless style handle. Pucker up boys

.190" W-2 stock
HT to Rc 60-61
10 1/8" OAL
5" Blade - flat ground
Rounded spine
Full tang construction
Stabilized spalted hackberry scales
Tapered tang with red liners
416 Stainless furniture
400 grit hand rubbed finish
Pinned/soldered double guard
8-10 oz leather sheath (RH)

Hey, look dude....knock your socks off.

1. Make whatever you want, the market will decide what your position is.
2. The last name is Garsson, Mr. Steingass....I'm proud of that name....in the US, if your name is spelled like that, I'm a relative....there are LOTS of Garrson's out there...them, I'm not related to.
3. Regardless of how you constructed it, I'm not a fan of unblued carbon steel tapered tangs....very hard to keep them from rusting.

Carry on smartly!

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

Speaking of the market, here's a comment I received today on this knife from the Professor:
Great price on a great knife from a great maker. I've got one of these in green micarta and it's nothing short of awesome. Everybody who handles it thinks so. Somebody buy this quickly -- I can't justify owning two!

Keep on quivering young man. One down, two to go :D

Market position....you might want to learn about it.

Butcher all the Loveless hallmarks you want, doesn't bother me anymore than people who botch Japanese style blades....those that know...know...and those that don't....pretend it doesn't matter. Ignorance is not a positive attribute.

I'm in my 40's....I imagine that when you are older than dirt that might qualify as young......Ken and David are most likely getting ready for Blade, might be a tad busy....you going? Be nice to meet you.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

Poor guy - high school must have been so hard for you.:D

BTW I'm 66 and aspire to the old adage: "When you begin to care what others think, you become their prisoner." I'm a free man young fella.

Best regards,

TK

It does have some similarities to a Loveless I suppose. I say forget trying to rouse the Loveless Lovers and make what you like. That said I believe you should think about putting a long false edge on the clip and rounding off the sharp corner at the dropped edge.
I've heard a few complaints about my simple carbon steel rusting on the exposed tang too. That's a valid remark from the "young fella"

Thanks for commenting Bruce - all good stuff. The picture is a bit misleading - the corner is rounded off at the dropped edge - must've Photoshopped it out when I cut and pasted. As for the false edge: this Bowie is a multi-purpose, user bowie, sized and with steel selection meant for carry, survival, self-defense, hunting, and bushcraft, consequently the spine is rounded for batoning and W-2 for the steel. I think another good steel for this hard-use bowie would be CPM 3V.

I've sold quite a few of these and designed it the way I like it - rousing the Loveless purists is just an added bonus IMHO. ;)

Ahh, I see,
I forgot to say I like this little survival knife. Yes Cpm3v would be tougher but I doubt the W2 will be a disappointment. Nice work. Lovely wood

1) I am not a Loveless purist. I have no problem with - and even enjoy - variations on Loveless designs IF they make sense and look good. I have tried explaining that to you, but you just don't get seem to get it.

2) Elaborating further, and more specifically with reference to this particular knife, I have ZERO problem with a Bowie with a Loveless style handle and think it could even by cool if executed well. However in this case, besides the issue which Mr. Garsson raises regarding carbon steel tapered tangs, IMO that handle is way too narrow for a blade that wide. And I am also not sure what makes that blade a "Bowie" but that is just a matter of semantics. On the positive side, I think the taper on the tang is well executed and the palm swell in the handle looks nice.

3) Since you have specifically instructed me not to contact you further after you contacted me first by PM, and in fact have threatened to try to have me banned from this website if I were to contact you, I would appreciate it if you leave me out of your knife posts so long as you continue to feel that way.

Finally, I am indeed at Blade ... actually in a Starbucks a couple of miles from the Galleria waiting for my hotel to get a room ready for me. You should come here sometime.

And STeven . . . if I were to wake up tomorrow back in my 40s, I would feel damn young! LOL!

Another one bites the dust. :D Love riling up those bullies :D

I generally only think of such genius analogies as this when I'm extremely drunk. Probably best to just fess up along these lines and move on.

Regarding your knife: The Loveless bit - yeah ok. But that's not even a Bowie's third cousin twice removed!

You fellas are right. This was a lack of professional behavior on my end - this won't happen again.
