i might make a knife from stellite 6k, most likely a 13" bowie, although it cost alot. i'd like to know some of your experiences with it, and does it come annealed, how do you harden it? thanks

well.....it costs around $200 per pound... so a 13" bowie is going to set you back a bundle...to say the least....like maybe 4 lbs worth...ouch.......it grinds fairly easily with new good belts...very poorly with ones that arent very fresh.....whenever i used to use it i would grind with a new belt until i met a lot of resistance...then switch to another new one and save the previous one for regular steel....no need to heat treat....but finding some might be another problem.....i emailed the guys who make it (in england now i believe) and never got an answer...it was a price inquiry... i have the site link if you want it....will have to write it down and post it...or you can email me and i will send it to you..you have to use carbide to drill it...and it welds very nicely....hard to get a nice finish on it too....hard to polish...hard to get the deep scratches out...www.stoody.com/
they have the patent now i guess...they dont call it stellite anymore....but refer to the word somewhere in the site...it was a while ago when i was checking it out about getting some more....think you should use talonite. from what i read its a better material for knife blades and way more available... email rob simmonich...hes the man...cant get it anywhere else...unless you are some industrial magnate....
