Quick question here. Is stellite similar to Liquidmetal? As in do you treat it as a tempered steel when working with it. I am not interested in forming just the properties of finishing. Do you have to carefully grind the shape you want then finish sharpening it? Just curious. Thanks and Take Care!!!

Stellites are cobalt alloys, ala Talonite. Stellite 6K is the alloy most commonly used in knives in the past. No heat treat necessary. Takes a razor edge but rapidly dulls to a good using edge that holds a long time. Also takes a somewhat different edge angle to get the optimum out of it. It grinds a little tougher than steel, so new, sharp belts are a good idea.

It's a slow grind but you can grind right to finished dimensions, no concern about heat buildup and almost total corrosion resistance(prolonged exposure in conc. muriatic acid will do some damage)

Liquidmetal on the other hand is a bear to work with, extremely heat sensitive.
