Over the past 2 years, stellite has quickly become my favorite material for daily use folders. The material offers a great corrosion free package, and does well on cutting tasks. I don't use a knife as a prybar or screwdriver, so the lower RC of the material doesn't bother me.

Now, I am moving to Florida in mid-June. I will be about 15 minutes from the ocean. I've grown up in Oklahom and love to fish. I fish the lakes here on a regular basis. When I got to Florida, I plan on taking up salt water fishing.

Now, I want a pretty corrosion free knife for salt water environments. I know I want the stellite, but folders tend to get gunked up from blood and fish guts and such. So, I want a good fixed blade made of stellite.

My question, who are some makers currently using stellite in fixed blades? I want to try and find something at Blade. I would love to get one custom made eventually, an interpretation of the old Cold Steel Bird & Trout in stellite. I have a Snody SnakeCharer and love that bird/trout design with the long handle, short blade, and finger hole for security.

So, again, who should I look for at Blade in the way of stellite fixed blade? Preferally about a 3" blade.

Thanks for the help

I use to own a Custom Simonich talonite Cetan, Great knife for fishing. I actually sold it to a guy in Hawaii that was going to use it for that exact purpose ( worst mistake I have made with knives was selling my Cetan). You should look into Talonite knives.

IMO the best talonite FB is Camillus Talon or Simonich custom piece if you can find one. I have both and so far I did not find better alternative.

Mike Franklin(Hawg knives) did quite a bit of work with Stellite a few years back, perhaps he'd be willing to try your design.

Can't think of many more makers that make Stellite knives on a consistant basis besides him, George Young, and Kit.

I wouldn't say I use a lot of Stellite but I make them on a regular basis.

I reserve Stellite for projects that I can have fun with, sort of whatever takes my fancy. It is a way of keeping my sanity in this crazy world.

Jeremy,
When I worked for A.G. Russell Knives I made a batch of 100 knives with stellite blades and tapered brass wrapped tangs with sambar stag. These knives really looked good and sold out pretty fast. I can tell you I was happy when these were finished. I hope to see you at the blade show.
