does anyone have any tips on picking up one? im just wondering how one goes about avoiding being ripped off with a fake when the blade has no markings. this is more specifically in reference to online purchases.

We've had some sterile versions...BM AFO's that came direct from BM...and a few Lil'Temperance Leafs that came direct from Spyderco...
Only way to be sure is to deal with some one you can trust.
You are correct, there are a lot of bootleggers out there.

A large number of Busse knives are sterile.

Buy direct from Busse, or from the Company Store.

What exactly do you guys mean by "sterile blades". The only sterile knives I know of are the scalpel blades I use at work.

Sterile= No Markings, country of origin, etc. Drop it behind enemy lines and you'll still be safe

Ooops, I feel pretty dumb because I now realize Ive heard the term "sterile" used in the context of unmarked blades before. Tops blades tend to be sterile, the cord wrapped ones that I have are unmarked. You can tell the fakes by the materials used. Ive seen fake a Tops styles using 420. They felt way different from the 1095 carbon used by Tops.

The way these sterile knives work is that when an enemy finds it, he knows damn well that an intruder has gotten in because it's a sterile knife after all. But he recognizes its collector's value and decides not to sound the alarm because if he did, his superiors would take it from him (since they know about sterile knives too).

is there a need for sterile knives in today's conflicts...I think the foreign manufactured knife can also be found in any country, no?

at least I know that spec ops guys have a large pool of inventory to order / acquire from...

True, they're really not needed any more. When I find myself behind enemy lines with a non-sterile knife, I simply attach a $20 bill to the knife with a rubber band. Then, when I lose it, the guy who finds it just pockets the bribe and "forgets" to notify the authorities.

I suppose the perfect solution is to get a genuine knife, but have it marked as if it where a fake: "Pakistan: Surgical Steel" or similar.

That kind of knife is worth almost double, not only because it's so hard to tell if it's real real deal (Genuine but marked as fake) versus then fake (fake and marked as fake) , but also because of the deliberate attempt at deception.

And No, I don't know where to get the on-line.

:D :D :D :p :p

I dont really see the point of a sterile Busse. Anyone one who knows anything can reecognize a Busse. But hey, whatever floats your boat... :)

The speed at which my Buck 110 collection seems to grow, and my wallet shrink makes me wonder if they aren't doing "something" in that storage drawer!
