Sterile Busses

Being soo new, I'm interested in buying a Hell Razor that lacks any markings. Seen here:

Why do some have the Busse stamp and others "sterile"? Should I be worried about authenticity when looking at blades?

Thanks for helping out a piglet.

:D

That particular Hell Razor came from a Ganza (virtual show) and IIRC, they were all sterile. I have 2 and mine are.

As for why are some sterile... Well, there's a few reasons. 1.) they were requested that way from Busse and Jerry allowed it, 2.) they are military overruns, 3.) Jerry decided to run them without markings...and probably a few other reasons that escape me at present. As for authenticity... while always a concern, we've been lucky so far to not see many realistic fakes that aren't immediately obvious, and I've seen none sold here...so far. :) If perusing auction sites, be sure to know exactly what you are looking at. There are a few knockoffs out there such as the chinese Mojo knockoffs that have popped up recently, but the price is usually a dead giveaway.

Sterile equipment of any type is typically a spec-ops military thing. The purpose for carrying sterile equipment would be to prevent your equipment markings from giving away where you are from if captured. Or so the story goes.....;)

And of course the reasons Jaxx posted are valid.

Another possible reason is a sterile Busse deterrents theft. Seeing "Busse" might trigger somebody to steal the knife.

Maybe, but I don't know about that... I used to know a couple of lowlife knucklehead thieves waaaaaay back in the day and they wouldn't have known a Busse from a Böker from a Brend from a Benchmade, but if they liked it, they'd have taken it...and they'd have liked Busse knives even without knowing what a high quality knife it is with or without the name on it...

If you know the name and the quality it stands for, then you probably already know one just by looking at it. :)

There was a period where almost everything was sterile finished.

There are a couple blades out there with marking on both sides of the blade as well...

Sterile is just cooler. No other reason needed.

(I would normally post a pic of my sterile FBMLE here but since Jaxx posted 3 forget it!)

:D

My ASH came with markings, but after a hand ghetto-satin treatment and a re-beadblasting many months later - it's now sterile. I like it that way.
