Just curious if Spyderco has ever made any sterile (no markings)knives for use by US Special Operations branches of the military, or maybe a US ally?

Just unmarked protos. (However, our round hole is a trademark and it is therefore marked).

I have a sterile Military. I heard that they didn't know which steel a certain batch was so they left them unmarked. The Military is one of my favorite Spydies :D

I have a C50GS Centofante II with no marking on the blade, although there is the medallion on the handle. Gatta think it slipped through. The prototypes probably would not have the medallion. Although Sal has said they have blades for this knife in 440V that were orphaned when it was discontinued. I wonder if there is any nondestructive way to tell the blade steel.

Thanx NCBlades. I forgot about those. Heck, it's a knife factory. screw-ups are minimal, but they do occur. But we've never intentionally produced a "sterile" model.

Would you make us a few "steriles" for a big -hug- Sal  ?

what would be the advantage of a sterile spyderco knife?

If there was a batch of sterlie militarys i.e. that would be about 500 pieces (I guess not in the collector's program) everybody would know if such a knife is picked up, that it was part of this special batch.

If I'd need a sterile knife I'd buy one in a shop and pay chash.

So beside that a sterlie spydie is cool.... I ask myself the above question. (I can't imagine, that to proof a knife was not bought in the US justifies a batch of sterile knives)

One more Q: If I'd produced a batch of sterile knives, why should I admit it( beside as part of a mrketing-campaign)?

Greetings

Come on you guys...sterile knives? We can analyze steel to chemical composition, we can tell a lot about a knife if we really want to. There aren't all that many countries that can make certain qualities. One look at a certain type of lock (Compression, Axis, etc), or the way a lock was made; angle of ramp, offsets, eccentrics would certainly bring down the cnoices.

What would be the reason for and the advantage of a Sterile Knife".

Sal,
it sounds like if you want a true sterile knife (which I don't) you should pick up a some cheapo knife that was made in Pakistan, or maybe Frost cutlery?

Which reminds me of a post I read awile back, that Spec Ops teams did
buy cheapo knives for some missions. Not because they were "sterile"
but because they were easier to leave behind than some super blade with a big price tag.

:) Advantages of a sterile knife? Well, I wouldn't get bits of yesterday's lemon danish on today's apple.
