Point 7 shot this knife in Reno and I posted a scan of that image elsewhere on these forums. But I just couldn't resist the temptation to see what I could do with it in my own little home studio.

Coop does such a great job with fancy knives like this one. So, if you see a resemblance, it's intentional. He's taught me a lot over the last couple of years and I want to make it clear that in this case, "imitation is the sincerest form of flattery." I don't pretend to do this style as well as Coop, but since it's my knife I do get to at least try.................... :)

While the Reno show is still fresh in my mind I thought I'd share this little snafu with those who might be interested. The ABS does an impressive job of putting on an annual show like the All-Forged Blade Exposition in Reno - but every now and then a little something might slip through the crack. What's wrong with this picture?

I think it was Joe Keeslar, president of the ABS, who put the classic positive spin on this little blunder. He said during the banquet, "Folks these will be valuable some day, just like that old steel penny." Well......maybe.

That is inspired.
Nice touch, leaving the flats of the guard 'untouched' or should I say smooth and shiney ;)
It gives your eye a 'break' and is interesting at the same time. The reflections must be very cool.

and again,
Wow!

One of the most beautiful damascus patterns I have ever seen. Stunning bowie!

HTMD,

FWIW, I have talked with several ABS MSs in the last couple of days. I asked all of them if they had seen any blades in Reno that had really excited them, to a man, the first one that they mentioned was Steve Dunn's Feather Damascus Bowie.

SIMPLY STUNNING

The cream always rises to the top. Steve has been there for some time now, and will stay there.

Nice score Buddy. That one has "Dunn" all over it.

Just one of the most incredible knives I have seen pictured.

Thanks HTMD!

Gus

Am I correct in guessing the blade is around 6" or so?

I have long admired Steve Dunn's knives, but you don't hear that much about him, and yet, the engraved damascus hunter I have of his is as well made as any I have seen, by any MS, with your knife, and all the talk surrounding it, maybe he will start to get the recognition he deserves, this is about the most gorgeous small bowie I have ever seen, must have cost you a couple hundred at least. ;)

I'll trade you my car for it. :)

If I hadn't quit buying custom knives, Dunn would probably be next on my order list.
He makes a gorgeous knife.

Been looking at that knife all day searching for superlatives to describe my feelings...speechless...perhaps one of the nicest engraved forged knives I have seen..a ground breaking piece for Steve "SOUL" authorship folks

Ari,
I think Steve is probably a little more well known than you realize. We just don't talk about him enough on the forums. Like Bailey mentioned, Steve has been on top for a while.

It was Steve Dunn and Jerry Fisk who gave me my first serious forging lessons in '96 or '97. Then in April of 1998 Steve invited me to up to his place in Smith's Grove, Kentucky to work in his shop for a week. That was where I got my first serious exposure to making Damascus.

Anyway, what I'm leading up to is that even back in 1998 Steve had a pretty good backlog on his knives. Now he's becoming quite well known in the engraving circles as well. Besides the popularity of his knives, he is doing a tremendous amount of engraving on guns these days. I got to play one this one. :D

Wow - that is just STUNNING engraving work - thanks for the pic Terry.

I have always liked Steve's Bowies. He's one of the best, and his prices reflect it.

Before I stopped myself from growing my small custom collection any further,
I was pretty close to ordering a Bowie from him. In retrospect, I wish I had.

Now, if someone wouldn't mind taking that beautifully engraved 1911 and shooting me in the head with it to put me out of my misery, I'd be much obliged. :D
