I think I better get on Steve's waiting list damn fast. The photo was taken by the photo god himself Terril Hoffman. ;)

Homina-homina-homina!! That is incredible! What's the handle material? Fantastic sheath too!

Pretty sure the handle material is mammoth ivory. I got to hold and drool on this sweet knife in Atlanta. My only comments are: Put me in your will! :)

This Fillicetti guy is some bladesmith. I hope to acquire one of his bowies in the near future!

Steve Filicietti is one of my new "long distance" buddies, and man is he one heck of a bladesmith. Check out this sweet little Bowie. Nice sheath work too eh?

Let me show you something else that blows me away. For contrast, look at this shot me forging. See the cute little hammer?

Now look at this ...

First of all, thanks to Tom for posting the picture and thanks to Terrill Hoffman for giving his permission to share it with everyone on BladeForum. Secondly the knife; the 11" blade is forged (maybe Steve can tell us what kind of steel), the slabs are ivory, and the guard and fittings are gun blued steel. The temper line doesn't show in the pics. The insert on the sheath is salt water croc and has to be seen to be believed. The knife took best bowie honors at the recent Australia Knifemakers Guild annual show. Next the maker; Steve is a full time maker who has been making knives for over 20 years. He is also a gunsmith and saddler. He hand forges everything with that 12 pound hammer shown in Mr. Primos picture. That's because he doesn't have a power hammer. He hand stitches all of his sheaths for the same reason. You can see more of his work (including some awesome damascus) at www.unitedbladeworx.com.au or at KnifeArt. Steve will be coming over to the North Carolina show in September, and then going down to the Spirit of Steel show in Texas. Get there early because I understand that Larry Connelley has a standing offer to purchase everything he makes. His stuff always sells fast. The good news is that his prices are very reasonable and his waiting time is short. Racer Roy :D

Thanks everyone for the kind words, and thankyou Roy and Tom for posting the pic. Terry when I return from my trip to the USA I plan to retire the big hammers to a corner of the workshop. I recently had a go at a power hammer and was very impressed, Igotta get one now.The blade of Roys bowie is 5160. I will have a table at the show in NC ,but will only be a spectator at SOS show in Texas. At this stage I will only have about15 knives with me. Hope to meet a lot of you guys while Im over there.
Steve,,,,,,,,,,,

Steve, thanks for helping a feeble minded old f..t remember the details. I also forgot to mention that the faux full tang has a bit of file work and the pins are sterling silver. I have to confess that the first time I held it in my hand I felt like I was cheating on my wife. Racer Roy :D

Both of the knives shown in this thread are outstanding. I love the top knife for the wonderfully elegant lines, fantatic materials and workmanship and the exceptional sheath. The Damascus bowie made my jaw drop. Once again the lines are superb and that damascus has a pattern that I do not think I have seen before. Partnered with the damascus guard, ferrule and buttcap, that damascus and handle make this one of the nicest knives I have seen, period.

It's about time you blokes caught up with Steve's work. Steve is probably the best forger in Oz but don't tell him I said so. A couple of years ago I could still take an award away from him, alas those were the days. These days I only put a bowie in for judging if Steve doesn't. A few days ago he told me he hoped to have 16 knives finished for the States. I doubt he will have any stock left for the second show. Steve has foolishly taken another Oz maker under his wing ( actually he is American, don't call him Canadian ). The guys name is Shawn McIntyre and he will have a table next to Steve. Keep an eye on him, won't be long before I never put a bowie in for judging.

Steve, Shawn, I believe that should take care of my beer budget for the few months, what do you recon? Hope you slay them, have a great show guys.
