A buddy of mine sent me a word document with Mr. Job's commencement address to the 2005 seniors at Stanford University in California. This is not an urban legend story.

I was BLOWN AWAY!

Here it is for you. It's a five minute read, but well worth it.

I'm still at a loss for words.
I guess it was supposed to be inspiration to do what with your future?
I am less impressed than ever... :thumbdn:

Seemed cool to me, but then again I love Apple and anything with an Apple logo on it, so it's hard for me not to admire the creator of the things I think are cool.

I liked it. Not the usual "Go Forth and Conquer the Corporate World" type of cliché-riddled speech that most speakers would have opted for. I think he knew his audience. (And it sounds like he worked hard to achieve his original success. I like that part.)

I certainly can't argue with his philosophy when it reflects so much of my own:

…..you have to trust in something - your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. This approach has never let me down, and it has made all the difference in my life….
…your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do…
…your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't be trapped by dogma - which is living with the results of other people's thinking. Don't let the noise of other's opinions drown out your own inner voice…

I thought it was a good address. Anything that is positive in this current world of ours is a good thing. Of course, it is tough to hear good things from someone who's already a millionaire while I wander around looking for my first big thing. Optimism is in short supply and we all need more of it.

Good speech ! Hey the guy lived The American Dream and came out golden. Gotta love it. :)

Howie,

What I got out of it is inspirational to my present: What do I do NOW? It worked for me, as I don't have a 'future' to build. I have a life left that I need to look closer at. :)

It's a thinking perspective with honest points and setbacks included. I can relate.

We're cool. All comments appreciated.
