The story I heard about him is that he likes to stay in his shop and doesn't take custom orders; if you somehow get his house phone, his wife will answer and tell you as much. Supposedly he makes the knives he feels like making, brings them to knife shows, sells out everything within an hour, and immediately hops on his motorcycle and books it back home. His work is good enough that he can kind of dictate his own terms; I have one of his sub-hilts and it just melts in the hand.
You could easily find someone else to make your sheath, I'd try that.
