i've just bought two knives from a coworker; a push dagger marked 0003, and a drop point hunter marked 0007. he's had them since the early 90's.

anybody have experience with his knives? i've not been able to find much info on mr. voorhis online.

I think Steve makes a solid knife.. I have handled them before, but don't currently own one. He likes fighters, and makes many of the sub-hilt varity.. He pieces are usually very reasonably priced (IMO)... If I came across one that pushed my botton, I would buy it.. I do see his knives for sale on RCK, ebay, AT Barr, Cuttingedge, now and then... Are you happy with the quality of the ones you bought? Best, Rich

yeah, especially for the price. my buddy has a skinner i'll probably pick up as well. the blades are still mirror reflective, and pop hair easily.

Don't own any but have met the man and seen his wares at shows.

Nice guy, good prices, good fit and finish. From what I've been told by others he provides excellent customer service and that's the impression I get from talking to him.

I have owned Quite a Few of Steve Voorhis Knives.I Prefer His Bowies & Fighters, but not the Subhilt Variety-He Makes an Incredible "Iron Mistress" Style Bowie.I would Have to Disagree with the Great Customer Service. He Has No Contact Information that I'm Aware of & once I did get Contact Info. from a Friend of His,I Still Couldn't get ahold of Him to repair a Couple of his knives that I own.Don't get me wrong-I'm a Big Fan of his knives & knife making abilities & I would still buy more of his knives, but as for repairs I'd have to find another maker for that.If Anyone Has His Contact Info That They Have Used With Success ( Meaning Actually Contacted & Recieved Communication Back From Him.)I would Greatly Appreciate This Info. & To Be Proven Wrong about My Lack of Faith in His Supposed "Great Customer Service"
Thanks in Advance for Any Help getting Reliable Contact Information for Mr. Voorhies.

His knives are big, brawny knives with a lot of bang for the buck, usually way under $500 for a big fighter or even a subhilt. Many are kind of "rough around the edges" and most of his markings are kind of amateurish. He uses way too much brass in the construction.

bringing back my zombie :D
got a couple phone pics of the knives finally.

You are right - my bad! :foot:

I have about 10-12 of his knives some older, some newer, all sizes.Older work better than newer knives, had some shop help that was not very good for awhile my understanding.I use to could get him to make some big knives to my design, about 5-6,not now, like only to make his patterns and sell at shows. He use to do a lot of business with Tree an knives,Jim Bering my know how to reach him.

I've handled a few examples of his work. Fit/finish/attention to detail were stellar, and I was pleasantly surprised by the cost < quality ratio. I really liked one fighter in particular; had a semi-kris recurve blade and a nice taper in the blade and tang. It was too short for my hand or I'd have scooped it up without a second thought.

alot of bang for the buck and a very good mirror polish

Just sold a Sheffield style piece of his a few weeks back

I agree with rough around the edges. I just bought a Voorhis bowie with stag handle and although I like the knife, was disappointed by the finish quality and polish job on the blade. I was expecting better given his rep. and seeing that many of his fighters are now priced near $500 and bowies going for over $500.

I did have his contact info a few years back and gave him a call, his wife answered and told me he was a bit of a recluse and did not take calls. SHe advised me to send him a letter with what I was looking for and I did. But never recieved a response

As far as his knives go I'd have to agree he makes some nice bowie knives and would love to own one.

To each his own, I like brass and have quite a few of his knives. Hard to beat for the money.

Hello,

I had the incredible fortune a few weeks ago in buying my very first very own highest quality handmade First Blood/ Rambo knife made by Steve Voorhis. It is one of his earlier ones, which he made about 20 years ago. And quite possibly, mine is the one which the late Jimmy Lile worked with Steve Voorhis on, and showing him how to make his famous Lile First Blood Rambo knives. This one has the characteristics of three Lile Rambo knives. It has the deep split serrations like the FB/ Rambo 2 knife, and it also has the handle guard like the Lile Sly II version. The length of the blade matches the Rambo 2 knife made by Lile. And being that Steve Voorhis and Lile were neighbors at one time and also friends, I believe the story I was told about this knife being one that was made by both Voorhis and Lile. In other words, it is a collaboration knife. I was told that owning this older Voorhis, which is stamped SV, is just about the same as owning a Lile original as far as quality and durability. But I tell you, this one is definitely a Man's knife! It is big, brawny, and a real heavy hitter. Everything on it is made out of steel/ stainless steel, and when you hold it, you just feel like a massive man! It is definitely one which John Rambo would have been very proud to use/ own! I love it! But more importantly, it is made to actually USE!! I hated the super shiny gloss finish that was in it, so I took the knife and had the whole thing bead blasted. Then I oiled it down real good to prevent rusting due to water being used to blast it. Then I wiped off excess oil and polished the blade with Flitz Metal polish And Protectant!! And now, it is a Beautiful matte finish, and I just LOVE this razor sharp handmade highest quality Rambo knife. It is quite possibly even better made than the original one. It is my very first ever Voorhis handmade knife and my very first ever Rambo handmade style knife. I just love it. But I tell you yo beware, because the knife is heavy and the knife will get razor sharp, should you find one like it which Voorhis made and you are thinking of buying it! Thanks for reading!!
