OK,

2 different questions, same general topic...

Stick Stoves, what do you like about them, and which commercially available model do you like? And what is the output like compared to a good LP gas stove?

Gasification Stoves
, what do you like about them, and which commercially available model do you like? And do they all need a battery to run a fan? And what is the output like compared to a good LP gas stove?

Thank you,
Marion

I don't carry a dedicated wood burning stove, but I do carry a multi-use Clikstand, which can work both with an alcohol burner and wood. Most of the time I use it with the alcohol, because wood burning is more of a hassle - but it's nice to know I have the option to build a small wood fire inside if I need to.

I made a windscreen for my tiny Esbit stove- got looking at it and decided it wouldn't take much addition work to make it so it burnt wood- added two ti stakes (which are carried anyways) to hold the pot, cut some holes for ventilation- voila a duel burning stove :)

the wood burns amazingly efficient and leaves nothing but ash behind

for commercial- bushbuddy gets lots of rave reviews

I bought one of the Woodgas XL stoves for my gf to take camping -- it's the size of a gallon paint can, and weighs a couple of pounds. I got it specifically to be able to have a pseudo-fire in places they're not allowed (SW deserts, in particular). It's pretty big and heavy for backpacking, but I'll take it short distances without much difficulty. When you run it with the fan, it's a furnace. Without it, it's just a small furnace.

;- )

For something smaller, I'm going to build my own from a quart paint can and Progresso soup can.

The basic principle is pretty amazing -- ingenious.

I built one of these and the progresso can snaps into the quart paint can perfectly. Overall the stove works great.
