Stick vs. forearm

Let us say that you had to defend yourself unarmed against someone using a stick, and that you had to block an incoming strike to your head with your forearm; how would you do it to minimize the risk of breaking your arm?

Assuming there's NO WAY to evade the strike (big assumption - if you can block, you can likely move your head), at least START to move inside & away from strike (female triangle). Move your head inside (mebbe headbutt?) Use the arm as "cover", not a "block" and take it on the outside flesh. You shouldn't need to take the full force of impact if you saw it coming at all.

Make him pay for it.

Rofs,

Your question is too open ended. You need to provide more details if you want answers.

In general, I'd try to evade the blow. How I'd evade it would depend upon the angle of the blow and the range that we're at among other things. Just as with an evasion, the type of block that you'd use would also depend upon variables like the range and angle of their strike. Typically, I would not try to block a stick with my arm, except as an "oh sh*t" move. At that point, I'm trying to keep him from caving my head in and hoping to be able to close and finish him off with the one functional arm I'll have left along with whatever other weapons (natural or otherwise) I might have.

Respectfully,

Fulton,

you are right, this has to be narrowed down.

I was thinking about a situation where you can not move your head, step out of the way etc., but have to put your arm in to stop the stick from hitting your head.
Which part of the arm can take the hardest blow? Where on the stick would you make contact?

If you must take the hit on your upraise forearm, my limited degree of anatomical knowledge coupled with common sense says to do the following:

1. take the hit on the meaty portion of the outside of your forearm (where all the hair is and where the suntan is darkest)

2. catch the stick at a glancing angle. NOT 90 degrees perpendicular, but at the most acute angle possible. I.E. if the stick is coming straight down at 12:00, your arm would be pointing in the 11:00 or 1:00 direction.

3. Get as close to the hand as possible of the stick weilder. The power in the strike is at the tip, so the shorter his lever (stick) is, the less power he is going to hit with.

Hello,
In response to your question: The Russian Spetsnaz have a neat way of rolling with the impact as in a bong sao to lopsao motion only more fluid. I have used this method to take a hit on the forearm and rolled off with only a small bruise. Look into it, I think you will find it useful.
Sincerely
Steve
