Hi all

I have a new Strider RC with frame lock. The lock is very tight to release when I want to close the blade.

I thought it would be a good idea to post the question here first before I start playing with it to try and fix it. (Please don't tell me to contact strider because they don't answer phones and so far they have not answered my emails).

Any suggestions before I give it a go? Has anyone else had this problem.

Thank you in advance

Have you tried a drop of oil on the offending contact part?
If that was unsuccessful, you might try a thin paper file to the frame locking point to take off a minute amount of material. Then oil again.
Just what I might try first,
G'day Mate,
Jim

If it's a new Strider (and not just new to you), I'd just open and close it a few hundred times before I did anything irreversible like filing the lockbar. In my experience, Striders take a while to break in.

If you want to, take a pencil and rub a little lead on the end of the lockbar and the blade tang. That often helps free up a sticky action. I just wouldn't start any "home remedies" on her at this point.

This is what I was thinking but want to leave it as a last resort, because as dalefuller says it is irreversible. Thanks mate.

Thanks for reminding me of this trick, I had read it before but forgotten. I will try this first.

The tang does not look nice and smooth, so I always suspected that it just needed a little attention to fix the problem. I just don't want to rush in without checking first.

BTW, the knife is brand new.

I will post my result once fixed.

I have the same problem with a boker bulldog, just open and close it a few times and it will work itself out.

It takes a thousand openings before the bronze bushing starts to rotate in a Strider. Use plenty of lube and listen to the snap as the detente locks in during closing.
