Sticky Locks!

I have a regular Commander black blade PE, and the lock seems to stick some times. It can just get really difficult to disengage. Does this happen to anyone else with Commanders or other Emerson Models?

I have this problem with all my emersons, my commander being the worst.

sticky, meaning it "clicks" when you disengage?

almost all my folders do this. remember, it is metal on metal. and metal sometimes has little burrs, too small to see or feel.

over time, it will subside, but i wouldn't expect it to entirely go away. it is a good sign that the lock is engaging the blade.

mine have stuck open and I have had to disengage the lock with a butter knife.

the liner goes one full liner width over. It's getting easier but it can still be a royal pain. And now I have the pleasure of that same problem with my brand new karambit :) The liner doesn't even go under fully. it looks like it is just supporting it with half of the liner. Oh well, it will get better with more and more use.

I actually feel more comfortable with the lock sticking. It has a more positive locking feel. When it is time for you to put the knife away you probably have time to use two hands to do it.

I have had the same issue with the lock on my 8. I figured it would get easier/smoother with use, and it has. I still wouldn't say it's easy, but it's much better than when I got it.

I think this is a good point when talking about emerson liner locks. When it sticks, the liner is usually locking in the right position. Eventually it will wear down and become much smoother. The only time it becomes a problem is when it wears down to the point that the liner moves when pressure is put on the spine. This has happened on a couple of my emersons. While it may not be the norm, it tends to happen with linerlocks over time. I love my emersons, but I am not a big fan of linerlocking knives anymore.

I remember reading somewhere that applying some dry graphite to the affected areas will relieve this. No personal experience myself though.

Bro---Your warranty card tells you that the knife will break-in period. Just keep the lock clean and lightly lubed and it will happen.
