Sticky Monolock

I just received a new Bradley Alias 1 and am having an issue with the monolock sticking while the knife is in the open position. Sometimes, it is extremely difficult to push the bar over far enough to get the knife to close. There is no blade play in either plane and it is centered when closed.

Is there an easy way to remedy this? Should I consider returning the knife because of it?

Any ideas or advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
KEITH

if it's brand new the lock has to break in. it will stick for a moment until the lockbar wear a little and adjust to the blade tang. a little bit of graphite can help (paint the lockbar face with a pencil, where it meets the blade tang).

I will give that a try.

I have an Alias 2 and while it was stiff at first, the Alias 1 was so bad I had to pry it open a couple times. It wasn't sticky, it was stuck!

I don't have much experience with the frame or monolocks, so I wanted to check.

Thanks!

i had the same issue the first week of use of my bench 760. now it's butter smooth, 60% lockup and no play, don't worry use it. if after some use you still got a problem then contact benchmade.

Awesome.

I was hoping it wasn't a major issue because I love the knife.

Nope! I'm sorry, but it sounds like a major issue. I'm afraid you'll have to send it to me to dispose of. :) :p

Some guys swear by using a sharpie marker and claim it's much better than the pencil graphite treat. Both methods are worth a go. ;)

I had the same problem with my JYD II SG2. A few applications of sharpie marker helped.

My fingers hurt like HELL, though, from all the prying.

Mine too! I used a coated screwdriver to pop it loose. Finally took it apart and slightly bent the lockbar over - I was also getting 100% lock-up. Got it down to about 50%

I DON'T Recommend anyone trying this (bending your Ti lockbars) mine was a blem though so what the heck. :)
