I just got a new bm 710 - but the opening is 'sticky'. I tried loosening the pivot nut, but it's still a little 'grungy'. I took one side off with the torx screws, but then I chickened out since I've never opened these before. I was worried about the spring on the axis lock flinging off somewhere. Is there something I should try before sending it in for repair?

On new knives the parts haven't got a chance to get into their "groove" yet. Typically a little break in period plus a drop or two of lube around the pivot area does the trick.

Also, loosen the pivot and flush that area with a few drops of oil.

Benchmade seems to be a bit dirtier from the factory than some other makers.

Then tighten the pivot to the point you like the opening effort and/or blade side to side play.

Use blue Loctite 243 or 248 to lock the pivot screw in place.

Don't take the knife apart. At most all that ever may be needed is taking the blade out - simply remove the pivot fastener for that.

Thanks guys - I took the piviot screw out and wiped the brass bushings clean and lubed with sewing machine oil and will play with it till the groove is down!
