Sticky rams horn?

Hey guys, I have a quick question about horn covers. I have a Lionsteel Barlow with rams horn covers and they have been getting sticky to the touch while in my back pocket, presumably due to sweat. Does anyone know what this is? I’ve had no experience with horn before now and am unaware of its idiosyncrasies.

Mike knifeswapper knifeswapper said that Viper used an herbal insect repellent buffing compound and left a lot on the rams-horn covers of the 2020 knife.
If that's a general Italian practice, maybe the compound goes pasty with sweat? (Lionsteel's Italian, right?)

I think that might be the case. These covers have lots of texture, and I just checked and found bits of sticky tan colored compound in all the little nooks and crannies, which I previously thought to be part of the material. I’m going to attempt to clean this up a bit and see if that helps. Thanks!

That was humor pertinent to the conversation at the time. This could be caused from anything - even the detergent the pants were washed in prior. I haven't noticed any general issue.

A wipe-down with wax or non petroleum oils will get it nice and shiny again. Frankly, sitting on knives is not a good idea, no surprise there's stickiness.....

It’s still nice and shiny, actually even more so after cleaning. Turns out the culprit was what I’m assuming to be buffing compound after all. I think the heat and moisture softened it and spread it around. I took a toothbrush with a bit of mineral oil (petroleum...oops?) and was able to scrub away the dried residue, now it looks even better than before.
