I don't know what the thoughts on this would be, but what do the members of this forum think of having a sticky that would list contact info for slipjoint makers?

Just a thought.

Keith the information is pretty easy to find and the members of the forum provide the information regularly when asked or when they have knives to share. Add that to Gus' dislike (to put it mildly) of "stickies" and I think we can forego the matter for the time being.

I will discuss the matter with Gus however.

I'm going to close this thread for now.

I've discussed the matter with Gus and he has no issues with it if the members feel it would be helpful...So chime in with your thoughts if you are of a mind to.

I'd like it verry much!
Every time someone posts a custom they just got, I spend a few minuets searching for maker info/website if it wasn't mentioned... Also, a great deal of my time here and at other forums in the last month has been searching for just that, names of folder makers to contact about one I want to have made... Sometimes its hard info to find, especially the up and coming or less know guys that don't get posted about very often at all.

 from me. kinda a "One stop slippie maker finder" :D

I assume you'd only want contact information on makers that do a good job. If so, then the rightful place for this type of list is the GBU forum.

I disagree. If the list contains ONLY contact information there really isn't any reason for it not to be in the specific forum it applies to.

I realize that stickies can be the best place to hide information, but I checked this forum this morning to see if it has a listing of slipjoint makers and thought that there might be others that would find such a list helpful.

I really don't think GB&U would be the right place to have this list. It's certainly not the first (maybe not even the tenth) place that I would look for such information.

Thanks Blues and Gus, for your consideration of this idea. If it doesn't fly, I won't be heartbroken, but I do think it would be a very good resource.

If it's acceptable I don't see a downside to having the sticky.

Most info is easily attained, at least for makers that are members here..
If it was a sticky for contact info on makers of slippies, would it be best to locate it in the Traditional sub forum or in the Makers sub forum ???

A thought;

could we add lockback makers to this as well?
seems they're makers are harder to find/fewer and farther between, as it were. And certainly seem to fit traditional as well as slippies do.

As to only "good" makers listed, IMO, that would be promoting those makers deemed "good". Also unfair to lesser known makers, whom we might not have any experiance with their products. And besides that, "good" is an opinion/qualification that I doubt we all could agree on... Impartial to quality would be the best way to go IMO.

$0.02 again. :)
