Just this week I started carring a fixed blade for edc. It's an old CRKT stiff kiss. Im looking for a replacement as there are a few things I dont like about the stiff kiss. For one is the grind. I bought this knife years ago before I really knew anything about knives and the chisel grind sucks depending on which direction it is cutting. Not crazy about the tanto tip either. What I like about it is it's pretty tough and light and the sheath allows me to carry it in a horizontal crossdraw allowing me to access it with both hands. I use this knife a work so I gets used a a light prybar quite often. I have to cut alot of cardboard and plastic sheeting also. I like the smaller profile blade as I can get it under tight nylon straping in boxes. I'm looking for a replacement that addresses the faults but excells at what my curent knife does. This will be a edc/work/carry everywhere knife. Thanks

Ha! This is the *exact* knife i have and also the very question i asked - small world. After i searched and researched and watched YouTube and every other thing, i decided to *risk* $15 and bought a Buck Paklite Skinner. WOW!!! What a great payoff.

There are other knives similar (called "neck knives" or skeleton knives) such as the ESEE/RAT Izula (i just bought a pink one for my 7-year-old daughter and a black one for my 5-year-old son to give next year). In fact, there are hundreds of these types of knives, but i really like my Buck. Also, Ka-Bar/Becker make a knife called the Becker Necker and i nearly went with it - though it's a tiny bit larger than the Buck. Also, a company called Swamp Rat has one called the "Warden" and it's a nifty looking blade as well...

Prices can be as low as ~$10 for some no-name knife up to a couple hundred for something like a Busse knife made from their proprietary INFI steel.

I EDC my Buck and use it for various cutting tasks, but it really excels as a slicer. As a side note, most users haven't commented on the Paklite Skinner's ability to use a ferrocerium rod striker. Simply put the rod in one of the holes on the knife and twist the blade to create tension and pull/push out for big spark! A simple yet intelligent design feature.

See what the consensus is over on the Boker forum regarding the Boker Plus Gents Scalpel. Marion could probably do you the Kydex for horizontal.

ESEE Izula.

I had a CRKT Stiff K.I.S.S. once upon a time myself, and hated it for most of the same reasons you mentioned, but also because the sheath was not very secure for neck carry.

The Izula costs a little more, but it is everything you like about a light, thin, small(ish) neck knife, with some major improvements: better steel, better sheath, better handle/ergonomics.

I have Izulas and the Becker Necker ( my usual EDC - work knife) , but if I didn't have those ,I'd definately would have my sights set on the New Eskabar Becker/Esee collab. ( bare handles, stock) , or the Izula 2 which comes with scales already.

That's pretty much what it is. I don't see the point, personally, but the regular Becker Necker, Izula, and Izula II are going to be you best bets.

i believe the point is for those who prefer the blade shape of the bk11 over the izula but prefer the handle of the izula over the bk11 ;)

and for those who collect beckers :D

I like the idea of the becker necker. Can the sheath be mounted horizontal crossdraw without buying anything extra? Where is the best place to order online?

out of the box its setup for neck carry with cord... if you wanted to carry it on the belt you would have to ghetto rig it with 550 cord (free), buy a kabar clip or a tek lok.

The stiff kiss has a belt adapter that attaches with Chicago screws. Does the necker sheath have holes that would allow this ?

I'd suggest something like the izula, but i see you already ordered a becker.

Do you plan on getting rid of your stiff kiss?

I'm a recent convert to the BK11, I went with the BK11CSM.

It comes with no belt etc to speak of but does come with several feet of Paracord which can be used for either around the neck or to produce belt loops etc from the holes on the sheath.

I purchased the KaBar TDI belt clip which is compatible with the sheath and use that. I really like how low profile the whole setup is when I don't have my camera pouch on the front of it.
