Hi everyone,

I've got the 889 Buck Strider and the opening and closing is pretty stiff, it's not smooth at all. Is this normal with all 889s? I've tried loosening the pivot and oiling the pivot but no luck. I've had it for a while so it isn't new

Is it new?

They are usually a little gritty/stiff before they settle in and get smooth.

I always get stiff when I open a Buck Strider.

It's not new, I think I've had it for about a year now? It doesn't see much use though (too many knives! :D) so it hasn't been opened/closed as much as someone who'd normally own it for a year.

You "may" have dirty bushings. Had a 889 that had crud on the bushings.

BEFORE you do this...have a beer or two...getting the bushings to line up correctly on re-assembly takes some practice/patience.

Take the blade out. Note that the bushings are diff sizes. The thicker one will go back on the side with the liner lock. Clean it up :)

Hope that helps.

Sorry, I did not read your first post very carefully and did not notice that you said that is was NOT new.

I agree with the cleaning suggestion. After opening the Buck Striders a 100 times or so they get pretty smooth. Yours should be smooth. Check the washers and clean it out. If you cannot get it smooth, you might consider sending it in to Buck and have them take a look at it.

I'll do that Buckaholic and see how it goes, cheers

Not a problem Daniel, thanks for your input
