Stiff Vex

The action on my new Benchmade Vex is unusually stiff. I believe the reason for this is that the height of the liner plus the ball detent is larger than the height of the washer. I don't want to grind down the ball detent, for fear of losing it all together. Are other Vexes this way, and if so, how were they fixed? BTW, excellent knife! Great fit and finish, blade shape is excellent for slicing, and the G-10 is awsome. If it weren't for the stiff action and soft steel, this knife would be one of my absoute favorites.

Yes, it gets horizontal blade play. If I press on the liner lock (in the unlock dirrection) hard, the blade moves freely, meaning that it is creating the pressure.

They've all been sort of stiff from the reports I've seen. It will improve with a week or two of use.

You do not want to mess with the detent ball. It won't stay closed if you do maiking it dangerous in the pocket. If anything, you can de-spring the liner lock a bit, but you risk ruining the lock up of the knife.

If you want a quick wear in regiment, you might try Spyderdropping it frequently, although it might wear out the lock/tang area. I imagine the Vex isn't built as solidly as Benchmade's high end liner locks.

As with ANY object that contains moving parts, there's a break-in period.
Open & close it a bunch of times. By "a bunch," I mean 100 or so. If you're obsessed with instant gratification, either sit down in a chair and give it a workout, or get an axis lock that will come smooth from the factory.
Otherwise, just accept the fact that it's an inexpensive knife, and isn't perfect. What do you expect for <$60? It will become smooth over time.

I tried one recently at my favorite knife dealer. Stiff for sure. I put it back in the showcase.
