more of a general purpose but on the splitter end than the chopper end of things? kinda short for a splitter though, I wonder if it is for felling using wedges? bigger surface for smacking stuff?

Really looks like it is made by Bahco and branded for Stihl, they make some slightly different shaped but wall made products.

Yep. Interesting fat poll fatter then my calabria boys axe, decent taper, and edge out of box. Might pick one up.

I looked at one today at an ACE Hardware which is a Stihl dealer. Picking it up, my sense is it is to be used more as a wedge than an axe. It makes sense to have such a tool when cutting larger trees with a chain saw so that fall in the direction you intend.

Very much like the Bahco one I have but please note the awkward hole in the head, not your typical North American hole. The problem on my Bahco is that the hole is oval rather than the tear drop NA style. These are European axes and I prefer a more NA friendly hole so it takes less time to hang the axe.

The Stihl hatchet is a good little inexpensive tool. It's especially great since you can actually get one at a brick and mortar store and look it over before you buy.

Those look awesome. Love the security device , like you are gonna just pick up an axe and walk out with it lol

Nice tool,

This thread got me to look at Stihl's website. There are a few there that look interesting. Keep us posted. For driving wedges. I always cut a club. Sort of a bigger baton.

The key is to cut it before you pinch your saw. Been through the "Game of Logging" I like the control aspects. Guys running the skidders (cable) loved the Herringbone hitch lay-outs.

That axe with its wide head would work well for this.

Thanks for the heads up.
