Does anyone have any experience or thoughts with the Stihl Pro Universal Forestry Axe?

Specs. 27.5" handle with 2.8 lb head

c60 steel (whatever that is)

thoughts?

Looked at one last week and i gotta say it has a good feel and made well.
Priced at 100$ here in SoCal.

I don't have one but looked into them a while ago and it appears they are, or were, re-branded German Oxhead medium forest axes. That said, the quality is there if it fits your particular needs.

Steel equivalents, C60 - 1060.

A discussion of the merits of 1060 carbon steel vs. 5160.

C60 is high enough in carbon to easily reach the hardness you'd like to see in an axe. But the lack of other trace elements, silicon and chromium, will make it slightly less tough. Probably a step up from Gransfors steel (essentially 1055) but not as good at Council's Velvicut steel (5061).

Not to hijack the thread but that is a nice website. Does anyone know about that Agdor Racing pattern?

Side note reply for Skillgannon: 'Arvika Five-Star' yellow label, and 'Hults Bruk' seal - 'Made In Sweden' embossed. I have some. One original from the 60's N.O.S, a one new from from BigBear and also a new head only, no haft. All just about identical size shape, markings and stickers too. Approx 4.5-lb head with broad face. Search Google "Arvika five-star axe" for a look at Images of them. Mine probably show up in the somewhere next to a Hytest racing axe for size comparison.

Sorry for detour. Return to original topic.
