Heres the deal. I recently aquired my first quality italian stiletto...a nice 9" with a dagger blade, faux MOP scales, with AB over ITALY on the tang. Anyway, it doesnt lock up when you release the blade. This makes me think the spring is too weak. But, with the blade locked open, it takes considerable effort to release the lock using the rotating bolster, hurts my thunb too. This makes me think it might just be that there is too much tension on the backspring(?) for the swinging blade to overcome and engage the lock.

So, Im asking you guys what you think, and if there is some hope in getting this blade working right.

BTW, I dont know much about stilettos, who marks their blades AB?

you're probably right, its just that I would trust a knife makers advice over a collectors, maybe thats too closed-minded

Sgt, open the knife half way and let the blade hang straight down and then press the bolster lock so it isn't hitting the tang of the blade and see if the blade swings freely. They might have over piened the pivot a bit much on your knife. If they did, theres an easy fix to this problem, you just have to use a light touch or you'll make it too loose. If the pivot is too tight to allow the blade to swing freely, take something like a straight blade screw driver and put it between the tang of the blade and one of the liners and very gently pry on the liner, just a hair and then try the blade swing test again. You also might want to buy some quality folder pivot lube and put a drop or two on the knife.Just something to consider.
