Welcome to Bladeforums :D

Sorry about the problem. Did you have to push a button to release the blade? You may have to push that same button to unlock the open blade. Or the blade may be held open by a liner or a back lock.

There are so many knives colloquially known as stilettos or switchblades, which we generally call automatic knives, or simply autos, that you are going to have to describe yours a bit for anyone to help you.

I suggest you post the question with some more information on our Automatic Knife Forum.

Welcome to the forum. This question really should be posted a few forums down in the Auto forum, but I'll answer it anyway. I am assuming that what you have is a swivel bolster, like those made by F. Beltrame, SKM/AB, and AKC. With the knife sitting in you right hand with the firing button and safety facing you depress or push the bolster that is facing you with your thumb from the right. It maybe very stiff but this is how it is done.
If your knife is a picklock, like those made by F. Beltrame or AKC, you have to pick the lock with your thumb or pull on it with your thumb and index finger.
Good luck.

I don't know for sure which type you have, but here is a link to several varieties. The "classic" or "picklock" style has a short cylindrical post that projects out of the base of the spine of the blade near the pivot. This post fits into a round hole in a flattened tab at the end of the backspring to lock the blade in the open position. On some older model you use your thumbs or thumb and finger tip to pull the tab outwards to release the post from the hole. On newer models part of the bolster that forms the cross-guard for the knife can be rotated clockwise to push the locking tab out.

In the case of out the front blades (what we called stilletos in my neighborhood) you would often slide a button forwards to pop the blade out of the handle and slide the button back to pop it into the handle.

Chances are that it is a bolster release. Like others said, push down on the back side of the bolster "t" and it will swivel down and should push out on the locking tab at the top of the back spring releasing the blade. And, don't feel bad. The ones I had as a kid were button release or picklocks. When I first rediscovered switchblades as an adult, I had no idea of what a swivel bolster release was and the lock tab was so tight that no way could I 'Pick" it open. I took a screwdriver to the lock tab and was bending out the back spring trying to loosen it up some. When I later read about the swivel bolster release I had a good laugh at myself. Welcome to the club. :p
