Stiletto Ti Hammer?

I like the feel of a crastsmen 23oz., I like nice tools too but 250 for a hammer seems a little excessive.

I can just imagine how they would advertise steel hammers if steel were more expensive than titanium. High density, low drag! Twice the density!!! The same weight with only half the air resistance!!!!! Strike harder with less effort!!!!!!Etc. :)
 
Dood. That's big money for a hammer! (says guy with house full of ridiculously expensive knives)
 
You would think you WANT mass in a striking tool. Hence the different weight hammers.:confused:

Whats the lure? Does it work better? How?

You have to use it to appreciate it. The Ti hammer kinda fits in with my Ti Mission knives. :)

So you can't quantify or put in word how the less weight equals more kinetic energy being transferred to the nail?

I'll have to try one at a trade show or a store.

been a carpenter for 20 years. i prefer 19 and 23 oz. california framer by vaughn.

the titanium hammers are very expensive and terrible when sheeting roof's and floors. although some peer's here in hawaii love them. most framers choose what ever is comfortable to them. the framer's skill is much more important than the choice of hammer.

call me "old school", but i can easily out nail most with a simple $30 hammer. besides, the nail gun is king as far as production framing go's (hitatchi #1).

ps- in '88 i was a snot nose apprentice, swinginging a 23 oz. vaughn. a laborer sporting a 28 oz. monster called me a whimp cause his was bigger and more manly. 2 hours into the day i saw him with a 20 oz. form hammer (eastwing) that he borrowed. i asked where the big hammer was. he switched because his arm was sore! :eek: he never brought it out again! :D

Obviously balance can play a HUGE part in the effectiveness of weight on driving a nail, but for that kind of money, anyone that would get advantage from a light hammer being easy to use would just drop for an air compressor and a nail gun.

It makes sense? Really? Some of those features seem impossible and contradictory.

How does Ti transfer more "swing energy" to the nail? Dang too bad Cliff Stamp is no longer here, I have a feeling only he has the tools available to explain that one.

If it does transfer more "swing energy" to the nail how does it absorb more shock than steel? There is only so much energy available. If it is being absorbed it isn't transfering to the nail. Is Ti some sort of perpetual energy machine? :confused:
 
Zen obviously you are fogetting Titanium takes energy from the hype that surrounds the metal. Despite it's main feature being incredibly non reactive, titanium is obviously the most amazing metal ever.



Titanium's unique atomic lattice structure allows it to absorb unused energy from motion and focus that energy onto a single struck point such as the head of a nail or an object being struck. Paul---Your tech questions need to go to Stiletto Tools. The hammer, works for me. Try one. Hammers are almost, but not completely, obsolete!
