Well, about half of my activation is done, now. I got a few days off to do with as I please, 15 to be exact. Figured I'd best go home and visit my daughter, before she decided to shoot me. LOL
Took me a couple of days to wind down and realize that I don't have to worry about incoming rounds for a while. Still wake up and try to find my M-16 every morning tho.
We get shot at pretty regular, but they can't hit worth a damn, and our trucks are armored. We shoot back, but don't stop the convoy, so don't know if we've hit anything/one, but they stop shooting, that's what we want. I've had to go out and recover other units equipment that's been blown to hell, but so far my unit hasn't had any casualties. We've been lucky and haven't hit any of the IED's (Improvised Explosive Devices), and our guntruck crews (All the NCO's take turns as a GT commander) have kept any vehicle-born IED's away from the convoys.
We've got good living conditions, compared to many over there. Two man rooms for most, one man rooms for senior NCO's and Officers. All with A/C and regular twin size beds. No tents this time around.

Hell, I've even got a fridge, stereo (Laptop PC), TV/DVD (laptop PC), and a coffee pot in my room.
We stay busy, so time is not dragging too badly. keeps most of us out of trouble anyway.
Almost forgot, they've seen fit to promote me, from SGT/E-5 to SSG/E-6. Same job, better pay, can't complain.
As to where I'm at, do a google search for "TQ, Iraq".

Congrats on the promotion!! Good to hear you and you unit are faring well. Need anything? How's the coffee holding out? I think it's my turn to buy a round. Stay safe, and don't ever get too "comfortable", wary is as wary does.

It's strange to hear about getting shot at. Have good days off. What a job. Thanks for doing it.

Congratulations on the promotions SSG! I won't be out there until after you come back, but until then, stay safe out there!

STAY ALERT!

We'll see how much coffee I got left when I get back. I left the coffee locker open while I am home.
As to the comfortable, it's part of my job to make sure none of my guys (or me) get complacent. Rockets taking out port-a-potties help too! Just glad no one was in or near them when that happened. What a mess that one was.
However, I have become tuned to the explosions. I can easily tell the difference between incomlng and outgoing rounds now, and can sleep thru the outgoing stuff.

Let us know what we can help you with: coffee, armor, khuks, political advice. Forget the last part.

Spooky...just spooky.

I had your address out this morning BEFORE I logged on.

Let us know about what you need when you get back.

wacherass.

Spooky is seeing your long passed Great Grandmother in the kitchen making pancakes one early morning before the sleep is out of your eyes. (or at least 'hunger')

Having Sanders out on the right page of the address book is 'sensitive'.

Not quite ready for the paranormal prime time players....

I realise a few simple home appliances hardly make up for what you are going through over there . It is still amazing how they can cheer you up . Just having a coffee pot would make a big difference to me here, I can imagine what it must be like to have a fresh cup every now and then . I hope your remaining tour passes quickly .
