Still Looking For That Perfect Small Tanto Folder

I've purchased a Sog X-ray Vision and a Microtech Mini SOCOM Tanto. I like both knives, but the Sog is too heavy to carry in my pocket (I don't like using the clip) and I want something as light or even lighter than the Mini SOCOM, but yet a touch smaller in overall length.
What else is out there in the small, light weight, quality, tanto folder category? I have a Cold Steel Voyager tanto, but it is the larger one. I don't care much for the smaller ones.

I guess I want something with a 2"-3" tanto blade.

Thanks!

Have you seen, or held, one of the Medium Cold Steel Voyagers?

What's WRONG with the Medium Cold Steel Tanto Voyager Folder??? (Mine is perfect!).

The blade on mine is a hair under 3 inches, and it's cute as a bugs' ear...(At least it is when it's laying next to my Extra-LARGE Tanto Voyager or Gunsite!).

I'll second the BenchMade MiniStriker, they are a nice small tanto and well made...you can take the clip off and wear it in a sheath or just drop it in your pocket.

"Actually, I wish that Cold Steel made a smaller version of the Gun Site. Perhaps a Gun Site III or IV!

How about a Pro-Tech "Pro-Duke" Tanto in black smooth blade? About the same size as an MT UDT...extremely light and Tanto Blade as well.

Bimmer1,

A smaller CS Gunsite (with a 3 inch blade) WOULD be GREAT, but I don't think that'll ever happen, as the Gunsite Folders were made as "combat-knives", so the 3 inch blades might be just a little bit too short to fill that role. (I'm actually suprised about the 4 inch blade Gunsite II, as some folks think that even the 4 inch blade is too short for a "combat-knife".).

It does, with the blade right at 3".

Grab the ear of a custom maker here on the forums and get one made to your liking.

You did say "That Perfect" small tanto folder. Ya can't do any better than working with one of the many fine craftsmen that hang around here to get your selection perfected. The sheer number of options and ideas simply boggles the mind.

Take a look around, yer bound to see something you like.

Go for the Mini Stryker.
Great handle + good clip placement (the only thing I do not like about my Mini Socom)

You might want to check out the KaBar D2 Extreme tanto. It has a D2 blade (which I find is very sharp) and an aluminum handle. The knife is relatively light and appears to be quite sturdy. It also comes in spear(I like), clip, and drop point versions.

Two aspects of the knife that could be better is the thumbstud (sharp angles can hurt your thumb and/or get snagged when coming out of your pocket at times) and the pocket clip (mine came out of the box too tight then when "adjusted" by me became too loose). However, these are not major drawbacks and one could learn to live with them or modify them for personal preference.

Unless your willing to go for the custom designed/made tanto folder I would pick up a Benchmade mini-stryker. I guess that makes me the fourth

It actually pushed a BM 705 out of my pocket as my "at work" knife. One of the most comfortable sub 3" folder handles on the market in my opinion.

"Looks like a great folder. Super quality. But, $330 is a liitle high. Of course I did not give a price range when I posed the original question. I guess that the "perfect" small tanto folder will have a nice price tag. I'm looking in the $85.00-$160.00 range"

"The BM 905 Mini Stryker is on my list for consideration. Unfortunately, I'm in rural Florida. I cannot find any dealers that have one so I can take a good look at it. Even our so-called gun and knife shows are really just gun shows. I pay $4-$5 at the front door at each show then I walk around finding little to no knives."

"I'm interested in Pro-Tech knives. I cannot find a dealer in my area so I cannot look at one up close. I'm tired of spending money for something that I think will work because the specs and the picture look great. There's nothing like hands on when it comes to the right knife purchase"
