About a week or two ago I made a rash purchase of an edge pro and a StarTac. The StarT is arriving tomorrow. While I am bursting with excitement, I cant help but obsess over pictures of the digi-camo, satin blade, PM2. I'm a very utilitarian type of guy, only needing and wanting one tool. Many people here told me that if I buy a CR knife, it wont be my first and only knife. I strongly feel I will only stick to ONE knife. I've never been a collector. I've always purchased what I thought was the best version of something I wanted and made do. I don't like owning items that sit on shelves or in drawers. Although I researched over many brands of knives, the StarT was the one I was initially drawn to. Of course I was given an illegal amount of support for purchasing that knife from many knife junkies.
The paramilitary 2 was a knife I initially skimmed over. I thought it had an elegant blade shape, and looked very ergonomic to me. I've been watching youtube vids on sharpening knives with the edge pro, and would occasionally see the PM2 in some of the videos..
The more I glanced at the PM2, the more it beckoned me. The more I began to listen to myself and appreciate the subtleties of it. Although the StarT will arrive tomorrow, a part of me wishes it were the PM2. I've never held either knife, so this obsession has no basis in reality. I know deep down if I don't hurry and purchase a PM2, its going to slowly continue eating away at me. My fear is- I'll appreciate both knives and keep them both! This will also eat away at me, owning two knives when my personality is that of logic, screaming at me- I only need ONE. I know this post will seem like nonsense here, as most of you are of the collecting type, the more the merrier. I'm going to stick to my guns here though, and make myself decide on ONE, once they're both in hand. Which will be chosen to be my EDC for the foreseeable future? And which will be hitting the classifieds?..
My gut feeling is the PM2 is more "me," but maybe Chris Reeves' marvel of engineering and tolerance excellence will spell bind me. I guess its time to find out!!

I don't really consider myself a 'collector', mainly because I normally have between 5 and 10 knives at any given time. I'm just a chronic buyer-seller, constantly selling knives I'm over to help fund new ones peaking my interest.

For me personally I'd much rather have my CTS-204P PM2 I got on the exchange for $185 opposed to a CRK for about double the cost. Yes, I've owned and used a large & small Sebenza 21. They're very nice, just not the 'value' I'm interested in.

Paras are going to be around for a long time. The CRK is already inbound. You could wait until you get the Umnum, use it some, see what you like and what you don't, then go after a knife that seems more "you." It may or may not be the Para 2. Maybe the Umnum will be everything you want.

I think your internal struggle is experienced by many. I can certainly relate. I couldn't get over the PM2, so I got it. I've never been so thrilled to possess a tool. It is a perfect knife in many ways. For me, I couldn't envision myself freely using a $300-$500 knife and scratching it up. Even $100-ish is pushing it when you could cut to your heart's content with a Rat 1 or 2 for under $30. But I knew I would end up with a PM2 sooner or later. I chose sooner.

Like already stated above, you made a decision already. Enjoy it. If you can't stand the thought of scratching up that beauty, there are plenty of people on the Exchange that would be happy to relieve you of it.

I've observed in my short time here, that many are what I consider knife "renters." That don't even really collect. They lust after so many models, buy them, keep or use them a short time, then sell for $ to try others. So in the end, they're really left with the cost to rent the knife for a time (purchase price - selling price = rent amount).

Anyway...as they say, first world problems eh? Enjoy! Life is good.

First, stop screaming at yourself.

Nothing wrong with having two folders. The CR will be the better knife; the Para may be the one you enjoy the most. You'll see/feel the difference right away and shoujldn't be disappointed in either.

In my case the Sebenzas sit in a drawer. I get no kick out of holding one and feel they are sterile and without much personality compared to other knives I like to hold and carry. As a collector though I have a few of them because they are known to be high quality knives.

If, with both, you still find yourself in such turmoil, sell one.

+1

I sold my Sebbie as I rarely used it. I much prefer a Para2 or even a Stretch for EDC. The Sebenza was boring, cold to touch, and didn't hold an edge very long. I have a Para2 in my pocket as I write this.

From what I understand, CRKs are wonderful knives, and I would have at least one if my knife budget were much larger. I can say from experience that PM2s are great.

I just bought my first Para 2 a couple weeks ago and I'm already aching to get another in all black. If you get it you will love it!
