EF 3 tornado in the Birmingham area yesterday devastated the small bedroom community, Clay, in which I live. As of mid-day yesterday, 190 residences in Clay reported as totally destroyed, many more with moderate or worse damage. One fatality, a 16 year old girl. Great loss. Young lady had a full ride to Auburn University Vetinary Medicine school, made 30 on her ACT. Lived in my daughter-in-law's old neighborhood. Storm uprooted entire family from house, dumped all of them in their swimming pool, except for her.

Couldn't leave home yesterday. Go less than half mile in any direction and encounter demolished houses, powerlines and trees down. And here we sit in an apparently untouched subdivision. I saw one moderate
sized pine limb down a block away, nothing more. Slept through the whole thing, learned of it only when Kathy tried to go to work and couldn't leave.

Son's inlaws live about two miles away. Their house was hit. Couldn't even get in to help them yesterday, search and rescue still underway. They are alive and ok, though.

Been dodging these things for 65 years now, and this is the closest call we have ever had.

I saw it on the news here . Glad you and your family are ok aside of the property damage . My thoughts and best wishes to everyone in your community .

HOLD MY BEER AND WATCH THIS !

Thoughts and prayers are with all that were affected. Glad to hear you guys are OK.

Very sad, prayers sent for those hit.
Glad you and yours are OK Mike.

It's difficult to find anything amusing about this situation, but:

Just go through to a friend from church who lived in the hardest hit area. He and his wife were unhurt, except that he had a sore knot on his head and she had black eye. Seems that he woke up to the sound of the tornado's roar and yelled for his wife to go to the basement. Just as they started to leave the bedroom he heard the windows blow out and yelled, "Get down." Their only injuries came as they bumped heads when diving for the floor.

We've seen the horrible devastation on the news here. Hope everyone is ok in those areas. Positve thoughts from Oz. :/

I'm sorry to hear about the devastation there, but very relieved that you & yours are OK, Mike.

I just flew in tonight and didn't havemuch time to spend on the forum the last few days. Saw this on the camp TV's and even the guys who have been up here all there life say it's hard to believe the power in a tornado.

Mike, aweful sorry to here about everthing going on down there and for this time of year is weird. Hope the community can come together after this and heal the wounds. Smoke and Prayers to all.

MikeH,

Do you need any help or supplies? I'm in Madison, but I frequently travel to Trussville to visit my brothers.

Mike L.
