Aloha ALL,

The Boker Plus CLB Design SUBCOM-F, aka "Original Biscuit", is still the best selling folder out of all my collabs with Boker.

I was kind of shocked to see that since it's arrival into the knife industry, it has yet to be out sold by any of my later designs. I thought the Trance would have taken over by now, or maybe the variant in the form of the WHARCOM. Nope. The SF was first reviewed by BLADE magazine's legendary writer, Mr. Kim Breed. Then onto a few more legends: Steven Dick, Michael Janich, Ralph Mroz, Jan Miller, Fred Perrin, etc...Jerry VanCook of Tactical Knives called it, the "Tiny Terror", and they all pretty much held it in high regard. Then folks started modifying, or "pimping" their SF's to their liking, because it is not only "easy" to do with the SF, but the price point of the SF makes it a fun knife to customize! Most known on the forums is potterma for doing such "pimp jobs", but there are a great many others doing their "own thing". I have seen some incredible "pimped" SF's out there.

Makes me very happy to know that the SUBCOM-F is still being sought after and used by both knifenutz like us, as well as "non-knife" nutz. Guess I just wanted to say mahalo much to all of you who have either experienced the SF, use it, own it, gave it as a gift, etc...I gotta admit, it is a lot of knife for it's size, very easy to maintain, and it is very urban friendly. Out of all the "SFV's" (Subcom Folder Variants) I have been carrying the hawkbill version known as the SubClaw mostly, but today...I think I will carry my "Original Biscuit". (Boy, I wonder if famous knife designer DiAlex knew what he was starting when he nicknamed it that! LOL!)

Mahalo much everyone for making this lil' one, "The One"!!!
God bless and take care!

They say nothing is new under the sun but the Biscuit is an original, it's a combination of what we've seen but in a new package that not only works well but is really eye-catching.

Even so, I got hooked on the Trance! :D When I first saw the pictures I thought it was an ugly knife. We all know what Spyderco does with ugly, and now Boker does it too -- they make knives with function instead of glitz.

By the way, the M-Type beats the Trance for utility. Some days it even beats my Miltary. But I haven't retired the Trance altogether. :p

Aloha knifebro Esav!!!

LONG time no see, and mahalo for your kind words.

Glad you like the M-Type, and thanks more so for the sitrep against your other carry knives. I been carrying my HYPER a lot, but still, I cannot let go of my Trance either.:o

God bless and do take care bro!

Still #1? Mine just came today! I bought the black Subcom F B0586 2 weeks ago but my roommate wanted it bad so my replacement BO589 PE Subcom just came in the mail along with the B0590 Trance! Maybe I am slow but these are the first non slipjoints that made me reach for my wallet in over a year!

I really like these two! Nice work!

Way to go, Chad!! That knife will have "staying power!" Nice to hear from you!
Rolf

congrats Chad and great pix of the venerable SubcomF....
I've gotta admit that even though i have my "fair share" of pimped "biscuits" and Trances..... I still kinda prefer the original factory FRN scales...for the weight savings with full functionality (of course)....so I ended up getting "plain vanilla" FRN Subcom,Subclaw, and Trance specimens to rotate with my potterma-pimped "fancy flavored" versions ;) I can't wait to see how the Edit stacks up against the SubcomFixed...keep up the great designs, hope you're keeping that "vog" out of your lungs :p :D

Aloha and welcome F3X,

Wow...your roommate is fortunate to have you as a friend! The BO586 aka ALL Black SF, Burnt Biscuit, Black Beauty, etc...is the second highest selling design!;)

I appreciate your testimony regarding how much you liked the Boker Plus/CLB Design collabs to replace them slippy's!:D More so, I am glad you are happy with the knives!!!

Keep us posted and mahalo!
God bless!

Aloha Lycosa!

Good to see ya! I pray the SFV's will have staying power now that Germany has been subjected to that..."law".:jerkit:

God bless and thanks for your positivity!

I tend to carry the original more than any of the others. I have one with me everyday.
Thanks Chad

Ahhh Chris...
Good to see ya, and mahalo for enjoying "the Biscuit". Knowing you carry one everyday, is good enough for me to know WHY this knife is "the ONE"!

Take care and God bless!

Aloha bro!

Cripes...I think you have one of the largest coolections of POTTERMIZED Biscuits! Yes, I agree with your rotation approach with your POTTERMIZED versions. Potter's work is so beautiful...the only one I carry is the Yellow scaled RESCOM. The CF one stays in my Gawk Box, while my wife still carrie her Polypearl original SF, but love her POTTERMIZED green/blue polished G10 one too much to carry.;)

Ahhh, the EDIT. NO comparison to the SFB...you'll see.;)

Ugh, the Vog has been terrible here...I am seriously thinking of going to the local surplus store to get three respirators for me and my family...cripes.

God bless and keep in touch bro!

hey Daywalker, them potterma polypearl "biscuits" look great....reminds me of those "Kingpin" bowling days back in the day :p
Yeah, love the big belly of the "original" SubcomF.... what "hooked me" to the "the One" was the superslicy thin fullflat ground blade with that crazysharp factory edge.... it kinda took me by surprise how sharp these "beloved biscuits" arrive out of the box, to be honest ... so i knew what to expect when i received my 1st Subclaw ;)

I have an M-type in my pocket right now, but when I'm done evaluating it, the Subcom is going back in. (not that there is anything wrong with Mr. M-Type, but sometimes you hit a home run on your first try.):D

Zen I feel the same way about the Trance as you do about the SubcomF  2 homeruns in one inning  :p

Doesn't surprise me one bit!....Doc:D:thumbup:

Hey SSifu,

LOL, ya know honestly, it does surprise ME...I mean, look at how simplistic the design is...no "bells or whistles", and WHAM! That lil' bugger won the hearts of many European folks, and is catching on in the States...

Mahalo Biscuit Opening Master...a lot.

God bless and take care!;)

And that's why it's so popular! Put a glass-breaker on it (ok, maybe that wouldn't fit:p), and there'll be people who don't like the glassbreaker. Some people don't like hawkbills, some wouldn't like it if you had a more contoured handle, or if... you get the drift. It's simple, cheap and great value (and easily pimpable:D).

I think the SUBCOM knives are still the best sellers because of the proportion of length and width when they are closed. When I saw one for the first time, I had never seen a pocket knife like it but somehow I knew that is the way a pocket knife should look. The proportion is (or is close to) the Golden Ratio. The Golden Ratio is approximately 1.6180339887. A closed SUBCOM has the preportions of a Golden Rectangle. A Golden Rectangle has a length 1.6180339887 times its width.

The Golden Ratio can be found all over nature. Artist's have also used the Golden Ratio extensively. Even if someone does not know about the Golden Ratio, it just seems "right" and visually pleasing.

I bet if Daywalker made a longer knife that had the closed length\width Golden Ratio it would be very popular. One example would be a knife that is 4 inch long when closed, and 2.472 inches wide.
