Well, Now that the 2016 products are official.... it leaves me waiting another year for my dream knife...and I honestly just don't understand how it's not already an existing product.

Let me give some background to my line of thinking.... I'm after the " best " purely SD carry knife that can be legally carried in Texas ( 5.5 inch ) for when I have to leave my CC in the truck due to posted 30.06 signs which prohibit carry at posted locations...

ATM I use an XL serrated Talwar for this role....

In my opinion the perfect SD carry knife is one that makes use of the maximum blade length law allowing 5.5 inches of blade..... and many of the CS folders fit this checkmark.

It should be available fully serrated as its not a daily use knife... its a knife I plan to never use, but IF forced into it...I want the extra edge aggression of the serrations.

It should be G10 handled, I prefer at least partial internal frame, a lot like the espada series....

It should have the waveable thumb plate...for instant opening upon draw...

so far The XL Talwar Serrated is as close to perfect as it gets... and guys, the XL Talwar is a BEAST of a knife....surely it would do the job BUT... is it perfect?.....

I propose not....

In fact I propose that if you made a knife from CS parts to BE perfect, it would need the handle of the Large G10 Espada, The thumb plate opener, Triad lock, but it would need a fully serrated 5.5 inch Black Talon style blade with its forward swept hook then modified back into a recurve S shape like a Vaquero for a secondary belly.....then DLC it and give the whole thing a black out job like the Rajah II Blackout.

Anyone with me? .......I think it would appeal to us that already prefer the larger folders and I honestly think it would be the single most effective SD option available to a non trained user.... sure with years of training, a different style might be better.... but I'm talking straight up normal Bob the banker types....

I LOVE my Talwar XL.... but seriously, how is this not already a thing...ESPECIALLY from CS.

/hopeful waiting....

The Black Talon II with a 4" serrated blade already works just fine for SD for the untrained ... if you understand how a talon works. More than enough for any "bob the banker" type, who's not going to be carrying a larger knife anyway. Any 3" hawkbill blade will work to change someone's focus and attitude very quickly if applied correctly.

Why blacked out? The point of a self defense knife is to protect yourself. A more highly visible knife is more likely to deter an attacker in the first place, which is much safer than actually getting into a close quarters fight with someone. The advantage of a blacked out blade is there's less reflection, so a sentry or someone is less likely to spot you. If you're not a commando, an assassin, a ninja, or someone else who routinely stalks around enemy territory trying to silently dispatch their guards, you're not really getting an advantage as far as self defense goes.

I somewhat disagree but respect your point of view... my concern is less the lone mugger that might be frightened off from seeing his intended target is not as soft as he thought, but rather the defense of one self and family in a situation like in a dark theater in Colorado, or in a Luby's in Texas, a workplace Christmas party in California.....

Vrs a single person, who is still somewhat rational, avoidance is always the best solution and typically those kinds of situations can be avoided entirely by paying attention to your surroundings and minimizing risk... but in those rare occasions where the threat you face is not rational, and you have no avenues of escape... having light glint off a polished piece of steel denoting you as an alpha threat in a crowd of targets tends to make you an alpha target.... something as simple as a glint of light could mean the difference between protecting your family and being one of the first casualties...

Its just a trade that does not seem to have much of a bonus in my mind.... I can't imagine a situation where I would rather have a light saber over a handful of shadow IF I truly believed I would be forced to use the blade as a weapon in defense of life.

I'm quite sure in this day and age these statements will make me quite unpopular and perhaps lead the thread towards a lock... but I did specifically state I was intending to use the blade as a replacement for a 9mm CC handgun... not a box opener.

In those situations, you could have a SWORD made of shadow and you'd be just as dead. A knife isn't a weapon you carry for use against a heavily armed gunman, no matter how blackened the blade is, you try that, you're not protecting you're family, you're committing suicide.

but I'd rather have something than nothing....and if the law states I MUST leave the CC in the truck then.....well....I want as much something as I can get by with.

If the only thing standing between a mass shooter and your wife and kids is you....yea, your probably not gonna make it.... but will they?

I believe that answer depends on how quickly you can debilitate... and you have to take into consideration you may be wounded considerably by time you close the gap.

not a pleasant line of thought, but its the one that drives the question.... what knife could I legally have on me that would give me the best chance to bring down a shooter while possibly being mortally wounded myself..... that knife is the one I want with me at the time, and that is what I tried to describe above....

You are right though... if I could carry a sword, I probably would.....though, honestly, it probably wouldn't matter.

I have always felt that the hooked nose blade makes the knife less effective as a fighting knife. You severely limit the knife as a thrusting weapon.
