As it says above i have spent about 2 hours trying to mirror this blade, 8cr13mov steel. Sucks and sucks, steel seems to show every little fingerprint and scratch, but slowly and surely i will get there. Patience and sore fingers will prevail!!

Here's my persistence. I didn't polish it myself I bought it that way. What are you using to do yours? It looks awesome.

Used 400 grit then 600 grit, 1000 grit then 1500 grit, each time going vertically then horizontally visibly erasing lines and scratches. Believe it or not I finished with the worn out 600 paper, Works great.

Oh ya I forgot. I also had a pair of leather work gloves which I semi stropped with

Looks good, looks good.

Should have gone diagonal at the finishing stages 1500+. Horizontal, vertical, diagonal.
Helps transition the scratch pattern.

I think a mirror polish would have better rust resistance. I wonder why there aren't a lot of knives with a mirror finish as an option. Maybe it takes too much work to accomplish?

No it isn't difficult to mirror polish. While a mirror polish is more rust resistant, it isn't a durable finish what so ever. Wouldn't last very long at all.

ya i hear that!! i put on a mirror, admire it, then cut something, then look at the mirror only to swear like a sailor because there are scratches all over now!! lol
its more of a show thing then a practical thing.
