Getting close to the perfect self defense knife. Defense being the key word here. My opinion anyway you don't really need training to use it. Just put your hands in front of you and move them around the knife does the work the angle does not mater. Think about it.

Handle is 4.5 inches long top of blade to front of handle is 2.5 inches the window breaker/ skull crusher is .5 inches long. Enough to do the job. The scales are made from Wenge stunning grain the pictures don't come close to showing it off. Comments? thanks, Ken

I like it, looks like it would be a good slasher. You don't really need a needle nose tip for a push knife anways, make a good skinning knife too.

Nice. I like the idea behind it.

Any thoughts of making the top into a ring? Helps greatly in reverse hammer blow.

Secondly what about making the "post" thicker? The "post" is the section between the two fingers.

Great idea with the curved blade idea.

Thanks,

I though of the ring idea both on the top and on the bottom sort of like a karambit. I lack the machinery to do it comfortably. Trying to hang on to a piece of metal while putting a 1" hole in it is not a good idea even with my drill press. Now if I had a milling machine...........................its on the list. I have made a number of these over the past year and they have gone through quite a progression. Most of them are on the album here. The post size I have played with also. If it gets any wider than .25 of an inch it starts to become uncomfortable, for me at any rate. This one is about 3/8. I have made some larger but those are for customers who request it specifically. Thanks for your input. A buddy of mine owns a machine shop perhaps I will rough out a blade and have him put the hole in it.
Thanks, Ken

It'll be fine with just the index finger ring. The middle finger is best to have no ring feature.

The reverse hammer blow is important for me since my hands from a relaxed hanging position naturally strikes in a reverse hammer blow just by lifting up my hands, if it makes any sense. This attack is sudden and powerful.

The reverse hammer blow is also useful when grappling with a fella real close. It is easy to impart a powerful blow with the reverse hammer even in this position.

The end result I will be interested for myself. Enjoyed your progress as a maker. Good luck.

Cotherion,

I meant a ring on one finger or the other, index or pinky. When I make these the handles are thick and contoured enough so you get a real good grasp. Plus there is the additional safety of the post between the fingers means it stays put. I will be putting more pictures up later today in the for sale fix blade section. But to continue the discussion : I understand what you are getting at with the reverse hammer blow. What about a chisel edge on top as well as on the bottom as an integral part of the handle? On the one here it is sharp enough to use as a chisel. Seems the Ring on top works because its a pc. of steel, protects your hand as well as punishes the attacker. A point instead of a ring takes it a step farther. I know there are pros and cons to that extra step, but you already have the blade out so your committed at that point. The training I have had in a few different disciplines always comes down to...................end it fast. Your thoughts?
Thanks, Ken

Agreed. Pointy at both ends always best since it is a punchulu so it will most likely be blood involved.

I'm unsure about chisel grind. Your current chisel grind (if you hammer blow hard onto hard surface to understand what I'm saying), will tend to twist or rotate the punchulu in your hands. I think a symmetrical grind on the bottom spike is better. The top spike being symmetrical or chisel shaped is fine since reverse hammer blows are always in an arc.

Google 'Titanium Ghost Laci Szabo' to see what I mean regarding the lower spike. If you can incorporate a little bit of the top spike of the titanium ghost then u will benefit from the feature. I have used the titanium ghost before here in my country and it is very effective and comfortable.

Good luck

Hi,

The chisel grind could be changed but aesthetically it works better. On the other hand it might be possible to reverse the grind on the bottom so it curves back towards the person carrying it. However your point about the point (no pun intended) is well taken. I do all my work on a KMG machine with assorted contact wheels so I tend to stay with what the contact arcs will produce. There is a lot of free hand work that goes in to these so I try to simplify when possible. Here are a few that are in production now. They are longer and the top of the handle has been extended per your suggestion. Just not pointed yet. Your comments? They will probably wind up with Rosewood scales. These are worked through 275 grit. I will go up to 1200 before hardening and polishing. Let me know what you think.

Thanks, Ken
