The original STING, started the ball rolling with my interest in knives. Of course, when the Sting 2 came out, I bought one. I now have neither!! Would anyone post some pix of that knife? Thanks.

A Stag Sting.

Mckgreg---Very nice!! Man, those Stings now bring a small fortune!! Thanks!

The new Stings are made by CRKT now, not nearly the same quality as the originals. The new folding Stings are very nice however.

The current Sting as made by CRKT, 3 1/8 inch blade and Cordura sheath with kydex insert. The biggest plus is it is made from 1095 steel.

The folding Sting is a titanium handled frame lock weighing 2.9 ounces.

Thats for the link. I just ordered a CQC-7. I think that's my fav. folder. Then it goes to Tom Krein. I wonder if we'll see any Sting 2's?

The Sting II was virtually identical to the Sting, just a touch larger. It was 8" overall with a blade length of 3 3/4". It was offered in the same handle materials as the original Sting. Here is one with white micarte...

mmmmmm....seems this got moved, guess the Sting isn't a traditional fixed blade...lol.

OOOPS!---I thought it was. sorry. Absintheur---Thanx for the pic! I had a Red Rucarta Sting 2. I wonder who has it?

Well I ordered a new Spearpoint folder today seeing as AG Russell had them priced 25% off in their seconds section. One nice thing about the AG Russell seconds, they still carry the full warranty. The only difference between the Spearpoint and the folding Sting is the blade shape, I had a Spearpoint till a nephew gloomed onto it...this one I am keeping...lol.

Make sure! Engrave it. lol. I almost bought a Sting folder. Still might. Thanks.

Absintheur: The Sting is 1050, not 1095. I almost bought one just for that reason--the idea of super-toughness in a BOB type blade appeals to me. However, I just don't need yet another fixed EDC that I will never be able to carry here.

Thanks for the folding sting pics--I had not seen that. Do you happen to know whether the clip is tip up or tip down? The AG Russell site does not say.

What is the county of origin for the current Sting? They didn't really china it up....did they?

My misread...

I know the Spearpoints are clipped at the pivot, would imagine the Stings are as well...seems to me that mine was.

I have been hankering after one for ages.
But around here, it is a dagger/dirk design.
So it could not even get in to being an EDC

neeman, how about the folders? With a 3" blade it normally is ok as far as carry and the spear point is a bit more PC than the dagger style blades.

Folders are something else.
A double sided folder?
I would not know, to fine a detail of law!

To possess a dagger/dirk fixed blade is the no-no.
That is not discressionary to the police.
Other knives are discressionary.

Discressionary,,,
As long as the policeman likes you.

The Sting is double sided but the top is left unsharped as it is partially exposed and AG Russel doesn't want you cutting yourself everytime you reach into your pocket. The Spearpoint has a unsharpened swedge on the top of the blade. When mine gets here I will take a good close up of the blade and send it to you.

The Russell Spearpoint folder arrived today in the mail. Of course Fex Ex dropped off the EK knives earlier so I am having a great day! This was ordered at a 25% discount as a factory second. Only things I could find were a couple of scratches in the handle finish a a gritty catch when releasing the frame lock. It will get more scratches the first time I carry it so no biggie and after exercising the frame lock about 20 times the burr that was causing the gritty feeling release is completely gone. Here it is with a few of my...guess you would refer to them as tactical knives for a size comparison. As you can see it is a nice compact size. From left to right...

Rough Rider Stiletto
Browning Mcusta Ice Storm
Kershaw Ken Onion Black Out
Gerber Mini Applegate-Fairbairn
EK Boot Knife
Russell Spearpoint Folder
Benchmade Phil Boguszewski Spike
Kershaw Ken Onion Storm
Spyderco Spur
Spyderco Endura
and the big Spyderco Catcherman in front

At $75.00 for the second (normal price is $99.00) I think the Russell is one of the best buys available in a folding tactical. Very light, 2.9 ounces, it carries like it isn't there and the 3 inch blade is legal most places.
