My morning improved considerably when I came across this beauty.

Sting by Don Fogg, MS

Hand forged from 1095 and selectively hardened, this aggressive blade measure 5" to the ricasso and 10.25" overall. The blade has been polished to show a nice hamon and bright false edge. The handle has been cord wrapped with and over wrapping of lacing. The pommel is integral and the piece is marked with a 24k gold cherry blossom logo.

I'm a sucker for black wrap over blue. And that is a beauty. Gotta get a shiv one of these years ;)

(Psssst) Last time I checked, Knife-Art had one for sale... :)

Peter, that's a really neat variation on the Shiv.

I need to check Don's WS more often...

Wow,Super knife.Heard of him on BFC and elsewhere but never saw pix of his work.Does he make other styles?

So Don Fogg is like a Bailey Bradshaw or a Fitch or a Dean?I know everyone has their own styles,I was just asking if he's on their level.Sure looks like it.

Don Fogg is one of the all time greats of knife making. He does his own thing and is of the highest level IMHO.
Great Knife Peter.

Leatherbird, you have so very much to learn.

Don Fogg is a superlative smith, and a spiritual leader and teacher. He should be known to all in the knife community for many things, but two stand out in my mind.

1) He, and Murad Sayen (Kemal) almost singlehandedly, created the Art Knife. I don't mean an artsy knife, or a sculpture that has a blade, I mean a full blown piece of art that is a knife. Do some research, it will blow your mind.

2) Don has an almost zen-like mastery of the temperline. He can do things with differentially hardened steel that some Mukansa rated Japanese swordsmiths would kill to be able to do, and he teaches it to other people as well.

In addition to the above, he is a super duper guy, and suffers my dumbass with dignity and tolerance.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

What Steve said...

Don, to me, is an icon of American bladesmithing. He has pushed hard where others don't even think to tread. The plane that Don is on is the brass ring for the rest of us. Best of all is he is very aproachable, humble and to me has always been an open book.

Mr.Garsson, absolutely right about me having a lot to learn.Did internet research on Don Fogg and mind blowing is an understatement. It's so enlightening and so much fun going to college here, Mr.Bradshaw, thanks for reply, your humbleness is refreshing,my second reply to a thread from Bailey Bradshaw, the other thread was on Rope Cutting and as informative. This is gonna' be a good day!
