Hi all,

Does anyone have a reliable quality source for stingray pelts? From a cost perspective, do you buy more smaller pelts or fewer larger ones? I'm making 15 knives with 4-5" handles (tsukamaki style) and don't feel it's necessary to give each one the 'pearl' treatment. Insight appreciated.

I like the ostrich market. I usually get a bunch of the small skins in different colors. Very nice skins.

I mostly snag them from the creek with my harpoon tip knife but when I'm feeling lazy I check ebay, they have some good deals on stingray if you look around.

I know they're not the best but I've been happy with the skins from Tandy... Granted, I always get them in the store and not online and I go through what they have in stock to hand pick a couple skins. I have an Elite membership at Tandy so the skins are $20 each, a couple times a year they'll have them on sale for $12 or so but, at my local store, they go pretty quick at that price.

I stopped in the local Tandy Leather the other week and they had very nice quality ones that were on sale for $14.99 from regullar price of $29.99. I bought a few of them for that price.

Haha... I catch freshwater stingray all the time. We run a bit short on the Coors in these areas!
