I searched around and read some of the old topics here, but I didn't see anyone describe what these things feel like. Is it rough like sandpaper and bumpy or is it kind of smooth?

I'm looking at one of these, but damn they're expensive.

Also, what do they smell like?

I have a couple i bought from the blade show last year and they don't smell at all. The are kind of bumpy, but are smooth in texture. They are overall really nice wallets.

The skin of the ray is loaded with placoid scales. These look like sharks teeth under magnification. Ray skin makes great sandpaper. To make a wallet pocketable, they grind/polish the tips off the scales.

Mine has been very comfortable to carry and extremely durable. Wish I could find a good deal on a matching pair of boots!

I like the ostrich billfold. I wonder why the have a street address in GA but a Los Angeles area code for a phone number? I'd call them before you buy just to be sure.

It took me years but I finally found good pricing on a couple pair of ostrich western boots. One round toe and one set for stomping the cockroaches in corners!

I asked a bootmaker why they are so expensive when ostrich are commonly raised for meat. He said there is a small "cartel" that has been able to control the supply of ostrich hides and maintain artificially inflated prices.
