I received the new Sting today.
I've been anxious to compare the new version to my original 1A from A.G Russell.
I liked the overall design and construction of the original when I bought it long ago, but it came to me dull as a butter knife and with little or no point at all. Instead of trying to improve it, I stored it away as a collectible.
No such problem with the CRKT version. This piece is razor sharp with a perfectly ground point.
In comparing the 2 knives, I'd have to say that the CRKT feels heavier.
The sheath is decently constructed, but useless for any type of fast withdrawal. It came with straps and loops for various modes of carry, all of which are probably too complicated. Simpler would have been better. On the positive side, this knife is substantial enough to warrant an after market rig,IMHO. If someone can do a kydex sheath in the $25-30 range, the total cost of the package would be pretty reasonable.
I have no intention of using this piece for utility, so edge holding is of no concern to me. That said, I like that it is done in carbon, should be a very tough little backup.
Anyone that ever liked the original model and didn't get one should be well pleased with this version. If you are like me and don't want to carry your old one, here's your chance.
