Can anyone recommend anyone who has done a good job for them at stripping the coating off of a blade?

Why not do it yourself?

For less than $10 you can get Citristrip at any hardware store. Citristrip is safe enough to use indoors (we use it in the woodshop at the time).

Get a pan, smear it on, let it sit, scrap it off, rinse, done. Easy-peazy.

Is it safe to use to remove just manufacturer markings, BUT NOT remove blade coating?
I hate all those pat #, name of manufacture, etc crap that is plastered all over my blades, looks like crap! ex: ZT, Benchmades etc.

Blade markings like what you're taking about are usually laser engraved into the surface, or stamped directly into the steel. So a paint stripper wont usually remove those.

The only way your getting most of those off is some abrasives (grinding, sanding, etc). Personally that sounds like way too big of a hassle, but maybe the markings really bug you?

Good luck with whatever you do.

Oh, and if you are trying to remove those markings without removing a blade coating... That's not going to happen. The markings are typically underneath the coating. So the only way to get them off is to remove the coating first.

slap a wire wheel in your drill press....its the easiest way to strip the coating without using major abrasives or chemicals. Will minimize the steel coming off, but enough abrasive force to strip the coatings. A scotch brite wheel in a dremel also works wonders

If you are not comfortable doing it yourself and want to ensure that it is done "perfectly"; you can go to Josh at REK. He is BF's own "knife whisperer".

You can check out his work and contact info here: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...harpening-Regrind-Cerakote-Service-(pic-heavy!!)

^^^^This.

Josh will get rid of the logo's, and more importantly, leave things looking nice, not hacked.

It's not easy as mentioned above.
They are either burned or engraved into the steel most of the time.
