1st thing I did was sand off the coating on the spine so I could use firesteel on it, I didn't take a pic of that.
Batonned(sp?) and cut a little with it, because I would feel guilty if I didn't scratch the coating at all before I stripped it.
Yesterday I decided to start stippling. I was really worried about how it would look, but I knew it would be an improvement to the grip.
I apologize for the poor picture quality
I started with an old soldering iron:
I didn't like that point so I sanded it down to help prevent over penetration.
I tried to just lightly tap the soldering iron to the scale. Didn't get many fumes, and tried to tap the surface at a 90 degree angle to the surface.
It looks better in person. Because I put such light pressure on it, I don't think I need to sand it at all.
I'll post some better pictures tomorrow, and I am going to continue this thread as I strip it and put on a patina, because I'm pretty sure I am going to do that next week.
