Stippling g10

I’ve got another fixed blade knife almost finished up and it it’s coming out great. I want to add some texture to the g10, but I don’t want to do the same old “rock” texture or random pattern 1/2” scallops. I’ve been thinking about stippling. I think it could make for a very cool texture in G10. Similar to jigging but dots and less elongated. Something similar to what Ed Caffrey does in his wood handles. The only thing I’m worried about os how to finish the stippling so it doesn’t look chalky. I’d like it to be a nice satin finish. Has anyone stippled or dimpled g10 like this? If so how do you finish it after completing the texture? Lots of photos for inspiration are welcome!

I do this texture with a small Dremel round bit that’s similar to the texture of jigged bone. You could easily do it and maintain dots type texture with the same tool. This is the finish with raw cut surface and a light Scotchbrite pad buff and then oiled.

It looks like you keep the texture pretty shallow. About how deep do you go with the burr bit?

As deep as you want. You control depth with the pressure you apply to the tool. I wanted texture without too much aggression so lighter pressure for me. Also the ball end Dremel bits are available in different sizes so you can try different variations.

Golf ball style? Amateur modder not maker, but did this with a round diamond Dremel bit as well, then went over it with a brass wire wheel bit. Note that a light color like this can get grimy with use & need to be cleaned. IMG_20230822_134951.jpg

Here is what I came up with and I’m very happy with how it came out. Lines down with a 1/8” round file then stippling done with a 1/8” burr in a dremel. It was fairly quick and I love that patterns can added into the handle. Overall very happy with how this blade came out and how my first tapered tang came out as well.
