Stippling Micarta

OK, For some reason, I only bought paper and linen micarta with my last order(oh yeah, cuz I'm poor. ;) )

ANyways, don't get paid for another two weeks, but I want to make some knives that will still have some grippy feel with these materials. I'm not setup for blasting of any kind. What I was thinking though is that I could stipple the micarta with a nail set/punch. I figure if I can do it on a gun frame, in theory I could do it on micarta. BUt has anyone actually tried this? Am I likely to come up with anything good, not have any effect on the micarta, or crack it or something similar? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Take a look at some or Rob Simonich's knives with his gunner grip. I beleive he uses some sort of rotary tool to add grip to his handles.

Just an idea, but how about:

Using a ~1/4" drill in the press. Make a pattern of shallow holes. It'd look like dimples on a golf ball. Then when you shape the handle and curve the edges, the outside edges would be below the dimple depth and the dimples nearest would have a swell slanted look.

My $.02.

thanks for hte input you two. Now I guess I gotta dig up cash for drill press. ;)

Actually, gonna try stippling for now, then get drill press as income from knives allows. Man is knife making slow process in my life. C'est la vie. Thanks again for the input. Obviously something is doable, just gotta start messing around and trying them to figure out what works for me..
